^Don't get me wrong, I love Mathis, and want for him to be the shut down, interception machine that he is week in and week out, but you have to realistic and see that he is missing crucial tackles and getting beat by WRs week in and week out.

He really needs to step it up, the only really really nice play I've seen from him this year was that jumped route against the Colts that he intercepted and returned for 6.  That was nasty!

I'm in Cincy this week!! Jaguars time!!

Mathis has been solid all year...tackling has never been his forte. He has the Neon Deion syndrome, he wants to make a play on the ball at all times...not so much on the receiver. However, he has the ability to scare QB's from throwing his way, and I've seen that plenty of times this year. Is he playing as good as he did two years ago? Hell no, he was arguably the best CB in the league then...but is he the best player on this defense and a top CB in this league? You betcha.

I think to expect Mathis to dominate evry single top WR on each team is a bit over the top. I don't know of any other corners who shut it down like Champ Bailey.

People forget quickly that Mathis had a pick negated last week. Braylon Edwards is no push over either, he is among the top at his position.

I do agree that Mathis has Deion Sanders syndrome, tackling wise, and that is annoying to me as well.

rashean will shut him down.. like he has everyone so far

Are you serious? You mean everyone he hasn't shut down?? lol

He didn't stop Edwards on Sunday, and he missed tackles as well.

Rashean held Edwards (an elite WR) to 2 catches

I think a big reason why Mathis was so good a few years back is because Darius was behind him in safety and Mathis knew he had that hard hitting guy that could bail him out if he didn't make the play on the ball or immediately tackle his WR.

I hope Mathis shuts em down this weekend, I'm looking for some pick 6s from Cincys back up.

Wow, really?

I'm pretty sure he was happy as heck after Darius left for two reasons.

1. Darius couldn't cover a rock.  If Darius had help over the top of Rashean, he'd be a lot more worried than if it was Grant when we had him.

2. Darius played like a mis-guided missle.  I'm pretty sure he knocked more Jaguars out of games than opposing players.

Darius...good not great.

 TMD on Mike Walker Sep.7:
"because he stinks"
"Why don't you get it? WTH has this player done, besides be an OTA wonder?"
"In the exhibition games, he's shown eggo hands."
"It's like you people are truly shocked/ mystified/ surprised that Harris produced another bust."

While I disagree that Mathis was successful because of Darius, "darius couldn't cover a rock" is completely untrue. He was the leader of an Elite defense his entire tenure here...and it wasn't cause he could only defend the run. He was more than acceptional in Pass D.

Yea, each for big gains.  Plus Mathis missed tackles when the Browns had plays of more than 40+ yards.

Yeah one was 21 yards the other about 42 yards? Mathis gives up more big plays than he makes. And like everyone said he can't tackle. I hope he shuts them down this week there are no excuses against a backup QB and a last place team.

Ive yet to see a CB in the NFL who hasn't given up multiple big plays in a season. And everyone salivating over the media-hyped Champ Bailey...I distinctly remember one David Garrard carving up his defense a few weeks back.
