Before we shell out to build a house with KB I've been researching comments - they've had their share of bad reviews over the years but most seem to be from 4-5 years ago (when the houses were built) and not on recent homes, which makes it appear as though the problems are mostly fixed and they should be safe to build with... but that nagging fear is still there, lol.  Anyone have a KB home built recently that can offer their experience?  Buying, construction, problems after moving in, changes in the price or terms, etc?

Question!!

What do you do and how can I do it? Because if you're building a home in these times you must be doing well.

Not doing as well as many - still firmly in the bottom half of the Jacksonville middle class.  But the market having come down so much and new home sales having dropped there are a lot of deals out there right now.  We have decided to get while the getting is good.  A few sacrifices now but worth it in the long haul...

Don't know much about KB other than a few friends who didn't like them. My wife and I have had a Seda home, and now a Macy home. Very happy with both.

My advice is to buy an existing home. Problems have already been worked out with the builder. Extras come with the home, i.e. garage door openers, alarm systems, drapes, kitchen appliances, ceiling fans, shrubbery, etc. and the price may be more negotiable.

If you insist on a new home, put some of the purchase price into an escrow account for a period of time to cover any residual problems. I've known people over the years who have built new homes whose contractor disappeared after the sale and never got their problems resolved.

Good luck.

There are no recent homes.  KB will be so happy to build you a house right now that they'll proabably offer to drive you to work each day and be the best friend for the rest of the recession.

I've been living in my KB home for about 6 years now. We've had no major issues as of yet. We really like the house and the builders were great and courteous. My only suggestion would be to keep on them while the house is still under construction. They messed up a few things during the building process like the type of countertops we were supposed to have. Other than that, I'd give you a green light my friend...

Thanks.  We plan on staying on them like white on rice (or brown on rice if it is Asian rice), stop by every day and take pictures, even if just from outside, etc.  My wife's parents had problems with a KB new construction about four years ago and backed out of the after the construction crew made so many mistakes (windows in wrong place, fireplace in wrong place, etc.)  It is all about what crew you get moreso than the name "KB", etc.  Get the wrong group of construction guys and they'll ruin a multi-million dollar house...
