Chooch (10/29/2008) I want to try and re-focus the discussion a bit here.
The question is not 'how bad is Jacksonville's injury situation', but rather, which hypothetical injury situation has the most negative impact on a team?
Yes, Jacksonville has found out that it's Third string Offensive Linemen can not play to the level of it's starters, I think that we can all agree on that. But what I am trying to ascertain is, is our injury situation as, or even more, detrimental than the one that New England has suffered, or Indianapolis would have if Manning went down?See Coochie, you don't get to "refocus" anything. Threads go where they go, it's a free board, you don't control your own threads. You don't get to tell people what to talk about, and how to limit their discussions, and your attempts at keeping people on track to suit your ego doesn't work. Now get talking to that cat and love him! Yeah, yeah!!!!!!!! And I'm a cop!! I do's what I wants. Way to attack a respectible member of this board who never attacked you. I'm thinking your biggest fear is intelligence. Uh Meier i know you love stalking me but at least get the facts straight. Yes, this "respectible member" did attack me. Read up a few posts. You can do it. Yea, if you call that attacking, then you're soft. You completely de-railed the topic at hand and got called out on it. Your total lack of self control is obvious. You didn't take the time to read through his whole post and reply objectively and with thought. You can't go a week without saying get rid of "insert name here". Too bad that's not how the NFL works. But I wouldn't expect someone like you to know anything about the NFL.

Breeze (10/29/2008) Every year we talk injuries. How it's kept us down. Jeez louise we sound like welfare cases making excuses why we are not good! The man kept us down! The injuries kept us down!
Maybe we have mediocre players, drafted by a mediocre Front office and a head coach that was a great linebacker but not so great a talent scout and coach???And in this league mediocre is miles away from the top organizations.
Could thatbe it???????????? nah, you are right, it's the injuries. Just cut and paste this same threadnext year. Why don't you take your knee jerk, overtly emotional, I-didn't-even-bother-to-read-the-whole-thing reaction and keep it to yourself? I, nor any of the other posters in this thread, have not made the first excuse or complaint about the injury situation. I even brought in Pittsburgh and their M*A*S*H unit as an example of a team whose leader was quoted as saying that they would never complain about injuries, but apparently you have a problem picking up on subtlety and allusion. The reason that Jacksonville has lost 4 games is because the players on the field are not playing well enough to get the job done, plain and simple. Now whether that is due to the fact that they simply don't have the talent to do what needs to be done, they haven't been properly prepared to do what needs to be done, or they simply aren't willing to do what needs to be done, is not and will not be discussed in this thread. The intent of this topic that you so obviously blew right past into yet another of your patented, agenda-filled rants was which injuries have the greatest impact on what type of team? If you have an opinion on that, please share it, otherwise, go to one of the multiple, infinitely thought-provoking "Shack and Jack must go" threads and hammer out something akin to what my retarded cat could produce. Meier you there? Did you find the quote where this respectible member attacked me for no reason but me stating a football opinion. The retarded cat reference? You realize you just attacked me as well for no reason but you saw my name and didn't bother reading what I was RESPONDING TO! and then you question my intelligence? Ready to man up and apologize for your rude and hasty post?

| | Oh so you justify me being called a retarded cat as just soft. It's not a real attack right? So what is a real attack? You just got caught in a stupid stalking me blast, and now you are backing out and justifying it. You lied. You said I wasn't attacked, I was. I really couldn't care less but when I respond, back off. Here is a real attack. You are a joke here Meirer. You don't even bother reading the posts, you just stalk me and make insults. You are pathetic.

You couldn't begin to debate what the ACTUAL TOPIC was so you went to your usual knee jerk crap. I think you just saw the word injuries and flipped out.

| | Trying to get back on topic...great question Chooch. I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. I think when we lost our 3 guys in the middle, we lost the foundation of our team and our identity. It is what the team is built on, and now it seems our "tough, physical team" persona has disappeared. It's like if Tennessee were to lose Haynesworth/KVB and another member of their D-line. That is the strength of their team, and is the most indispensible unit on their respective team. I was thinking earlier, is there anybody on this roster at the beginning of the year that you would not "sacrafice" for the season if you could have the o-line in tact? Jones-Drew...I would, Mathis....yup. The only player I think that is just as indispensible to our team as the injured 3 is Garrard, and I think it is a close call.

I think maybe one or two people put down Vinny, but a majority of the fans here put down Garrard, MJD, and Rashean. I think we're seeing that without those guys up front, a lot of what we do as an offense is hindered. It goes to show you that big guys are at a premium in this league. Nobody should be crying for more receivers in the offseason. Look at what Indy's doing with a banged up O-line. They're looking like a shell of themselves right now.

My point is that having your backup QB play at 85% of the starter is not as detrimental as your OL playing at 50% quality. For instance, the backup QB can still hand off as well as the starter and the OC can call plays the backup QB can effectively execute. Whereas the line still must move the opposition out of the way on every play.
Regards.............the Chiefjag
I agree with your statement that I put in bold above, but I wonder how many backup Quarterbacks can actually produce at an 85% level of one of the elite starters.
For instance, the backup to Jeff Garcia in Tampa Bay can probably generate that kind of production/performance, but is it reasonable to think that J. Sorgi in Indianapolis or K. Kolb in Philadelphia can provide the same. They may play at a level commensurate with B. Griese, but while Griese is at 85% of the starter, Sorgi/Kolb are probably more like 50-60% of starter.
It is as you said though, regardless of how the QB plays, if the Offensive Line is not providing the push and/or protection that is needed. I guess it's really a no-win situation.
