| machine_head (10/29/2008) He's 2nd in the AFC with the second lowest number of INT's (4) and is in the thick of it with the other AFC QBs in terms of yardage, around 1,500. Rivers has just over 2,000. If Garrard catches fire in the next two games with multiple TDs and no picks, he'll be one of the top QBs in the AFC. What fans don't realize is that one of his greatest strenghts in protecting the ball and not giving it away and with the HORRIBLE receivers he has. He's made chicken salad out of chicken s hit.
Pro Bowl voting begins for him now!
He's also 10th in the AFC in TD's, 7th for yards per game, 9th in 20+ yard plays, and dead last in 40+ yard plays. He's also one of the most sacked QBs in the NFL, and that's not because of the offensive line.
He hasn't been great by any means through the course of the season. His play has picked up the last couple games and it looks like he's getting into rhythm, but let's not twist it into something it's not.
It's so hilarious to see people blame the receivers all the time. How come receivers weren't an issue with the last QB when he had the type of numbers Garrard has this season? Rhetorical question, by the way.

One of the most sacked QBs in the NFL, and that's not because of the offensive line?
Are you serious? So our running game isn't because of our o-line either?
Was he among the most sacked in the NFL last season?
No.
Why can you not make the clear-as-day connection that in games where the d-line is getting serious pressure on the QB, he's more inclined to make mistakes (cough, first game of the season) and take sacks, or throw interceptions. Heck, even in the sacks he has taken this year, i'd venture to guess the majority of them have happened while he was in the pocket. You can't throw those away, that's grounding.
You want to know why Garrard doesn't throw down field that much?
Here's a clue. You need good protection to throw down field. Someone can be wide open, but if you aren't consistently getting the protection, you aren't even going to try looking there. You don't have the TIME or the COMFORT to do it (hint: even the Colts are having problems with explosive plays this season... WOW MAYBE IT HAS TO DO WITH THEIR O-LINE BEING A MESS LIKE OURS? THE BELLS SHOULD BE RINGING IN YOUR BRAIN RIGHT NOW).
It's funny because Garrard avoids way more sacks than he's taken, and you still act like it's his fault he gets sacked. It's ridiculous Alfie. The guy can't block for himself too.
Do you think it's a coincidence that Vic writes this big story on the front page too, about how much Garrard was worth the money?
It's because unbias eyes see the reality. The guy is playing extremely well, despite all the protection issues.
The sad thing is, when Garrard does have a bad game that is BECAUSE of him, which will eventually happen for anyone in this game, it's those kinds of shallow observations that are just fed and fed.
.. on vince young
David: he will find a way to throw this game away
David: even tho they already lost
Naddy: i need chargers to get a pick 6 to help out my playoff challenge
David: me too
David: that'd be nice

Last year he got sacked 21 times in 11 games. He's at 18 so far in 7. So he may have what, 26 in 11? 5 more sacks? It's not that dramatic a difference. Mobile QB's get sacked more like it or not, thats why he got sacked more than the 'other guy'.
People get enamored because he scrambles and avoid what looks like a sack, when the 'proper' thing to do (depending on who you ask) is to ignore the rush and toss it to your receiver instead. Ever seen that guy Big Ben play? |

| | He's pretty much played up to my expectations. Nothing special, but nothing bad either. But I'm not sure it's him. Vertical passing is not a "real" option in this offense, so he's pretty much done his job. |

Why isn't it a 'real' option? That is the question... and don't give me the receivers BS |

Too bad....you're gonna get an answer.
What were LeftTOWN's numbers the season following Jimmy Smith's retirement?
Garrard hasn't had a Jimmy Smith level WR for most of his starting career, like LeftTOWN had for most of his.
You love Leftwich & hate Garrard. We get it.

| | He's been a little more erratic than he was last year, but is coming around. The way he started off had me concerned Shack and co. resigned him too early. However, with the the way he's coming on of late, I think that bodes well for the long term (3-5 years). In any event, we're not even 1/2 way through this year, so the eval isn't exactly timely.

Then why has Quinn Gray put up multiple 300 yard games along with a 4TD game last season while Garrard has done neither his entire career? Stop with the Leftwich crap, theres things people want to see Garrard do that he hasn't yet. He's close, but he needs to take the next step still IMO. |

Hey, I am probably the biggest Quinn Gray fan around....but lets be honest about his 300 games....
one was against one of the worst pass defenses in the league (New Orleans), and the other was in a game where we were not even taking the game seriously, thus QG could take more chances downfield.
QG also threw several picks in one of those games, so it's ot like his risks didn't have reprocussions. When Garrard takes those same risks & gets picked, people rip him for being "Captain Turnover" which is beyond laughable, because Garrard career averages wise has a very very good TD: INT ratio.....better than LeftTown & better than Gray.
