If Garrard had more capable receivers he might have been one of the leagues top passers considering how much our running game has struggled.

QB is one position that we DON'T need to worry about. Need to draft an OL in the 1st or 3rd rd and possibly pick up another in FA and our offense will be fine.

It's that sort of thinking that put the Jaguars in this position. They need only to draft the best player. I don't care what position he plays.

Great, let's draft a QB or OT (especially if we resign Barnes).

What’s your reaction to Hines Ward breaking rookie LB Keith Rivers’ jaw?

STEELER VIC:  Fine him? They should pin a medal on him. 10/21/2008

Classy.

While I appreciate your point, I agree and don't. I think we should draft the BAP; but be reasonable about it. For example, let's say there is a QB than a d-line man available. The QB is the BAP, but we have no need for it.

But if you're stretching for need...

...and there Vic goes again (see today's latest article.)  http://www.jaguars.com/news/article.aspx?id=7391

Must be a slow news week for 'ol Vic, so he turns to beating the drum.  Shocker.  Taking the lazy way out with an opinion piece rather than a news story.

That reminds me of his very first protective article from last year - where he attempted to prepare us for a barrage of INTs from David immediately after he was named starter.  "I'll be watching this" were his words, after he threw out some stats trying to correlate QB wins with INTs.

When David didn't throw any INTs, he quit "watching this" and dropped the story.

Here, he's getting ahead of himself once again.  If the team doesn't have success with the next few cupcakes, he may want to retract this article.

"I have to do a better job of throwing the ball downfield more when I have chances and not second-guess it. We just haven’t had the explosive plays like we had last year,” Garrard said. -10/10/08

The only defense against madness is the accord of your peers.  That is, if you can convince no one that your beliefs are well-founded, then it's probably you who are crazy, and not the herd. - Alexandre Kojeve

I remember that.  He pointed out that QBs could thorw interceptions and still win games...what he neglected to mention was that over 75% of the time, the team that threw less interceptions won (you can win after throwing an INT, but it sure helps if the other guy threw more).

He sure did fall off that bandwagon didn't he?

I think he's very overprotective/biased. In his recent article to say he was worth the money is laughable. He hasn't played terrible, but he certainly hasn't played up to his contract.

If he was, teams wouldn't constantly still play Cover 1 against us. People can blame the line and the receivers all day long, but teams don't fear him throwing the ball. If you watch the receivers at the home games, they get open down the field but he still seems to opt for the short out route or dumping it off to the RB/FB. He had a very good game against Cleveland, but he also missed a lot of throws down the field because he's just not very good at throwing the ball down the field.

He's one of the most sacked QB's in the NFL because when he feels pressure he tries to run instead of scrambling to throw. He still needs work, but he has moments where he looks like it's all put together, then he has moments where it looks like 2006.

Early in the year he was playing really bad, but in the last 3 games he's been very good, but we're also 1-2 in the last 3 games scoring only an average of 18 points on offense. People constantly harp on the defense, but the offense has it's own struggles to even break 20 points when the defense holds teams, like last week when they only allowed 6 points in the 2nd half.

*edit

And if anyone think it's the offensive lines fault we can't run the ball still... grab a clue. There isn't a single team in the entire NFL who can run on constant 8-9 man fronts. Teams leave 1 guy deep even when we go 3-wide.
