| | I did not realize that the Jags fanbase had any say so regarding what the Jags FO does. Nor have I heard that the Jags FO actually cares what the fanbase says about anything it does. In fact, I would be very disappointed if the Jags FO cared in the least what the fanbase has to say about anything. For the most part, I think that this fanbase is IGNORANT to the extreme of all things football. But hey that is just my opinion. |

| jet0616 (10/27/2008) Just some interesting stats about the DE's taken in this year's draft in the first and second round (not including Harvey/Groves) compared to Harvey/Groves so far this year.
Chris Long: 19 TCKL, 2 SCK, 0 FF, 0 INT, 5 GP, 5 GS
Vernon Gholston: 5 TCKL, 0 SCK, 0 FF, 0 INT, 5 GP, 0 GS (as a LB for Jets)
Lawrence Jackson: 15 TCKL, 2 SCK, 0 FF, 0 INT, 5 GP, 5 GS
Phillip Merling: 12 TCKL, 1 SCK, 0 FF, 0 INT, 5 GP, 2 GS
Calais Campbell: 11 TCKL, 0 SCK, 1 FF, 0 INT, 6 GP, 0 GS
Jason Jones: 10 TCKL, 0.5 SCK, 0 FF, 0 INT, 5 GP, 0 GS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Derrick Harvery: 5 TCKL, 0 SCK, 0 FF, 1 INT, 6 GP, 3 GS
Quinton Groves: 8 TCKL, 1.5 SCK, 1 FF, 0 INT, 6 GP, 0 GS
This was not intended to be negative or positive, just thought it'd be interesting to see where the top DE's taken in this year's draft are at statistically so far.
There's alot one can take from these stats though it's interesting looking at them. With the way we try to burn clock on offense plus subbing guys in and out it's understandable why our 2 our under producing. Of course one can also say that with so many others doing better, perhaps it's not a problem of talent with our guys but how we're using them(ie how the DC is using them). If the DC is not using good schemes vs opponents(scheming being something we've struggled with this season) it's tough for those two to get sacks or to get tackles because they're stunting, etc.
Defense is pretty much a mess which has been contributed to by an offense that has not had a single WR worth his contract since Jimmy Smith. |
