I am going to attempt to bring some reason to this situation. Here are the AFC playoff contenders.

AFC East
 Bills 5-2
 Patriots 5-2
 Jets 4-3
 Dolphins 3-4

At this point in time, every team in the AFC East has a chance at making the playoffs. This is especially so, due to the fact that each team has a very favorable schedule. However, the fact that the division is very strong record wise makes it hard to believe that the Dolphins have a shot. The Dolphins will not win this division, and will not be a wildcard. They are just not better than the three teams ahead of them. The Jets will not win the division, however they do have a shot at a wildcard. Still, a wildcard for the Jets is a long shot to say the least, because they are not better than the Bills or Patriots. I have seen all of their games this year, and the last three have been unbelievably ugly. In those games they lost to the Raiders 16-13 and just beat the Chiefs 28-24. However, it is very likely that the AFC East will produce atleast two playoff teams, with the Bills and Patriots most likely making it.

AFC North
 Steelers 5-2
 Ravens 4-3
 Browns 3-4

The fact is, the Steelers are going to win the AFC North. They have proven to be a good football team and are better than the Ravens and Browns. The fact that the Steelers are most likely not going to be fighting for a wildcard position may actually be good for the Jaguars, since they lost to the Steelers. The Jaguars still have to play the Ravens later in the season, and hopefully they'll beat them. A win would help the Jaguars chances for the wildcard since the Ravens will most likely also be fighting for one. The Browns have been improving as of late, but are still stuck in a very tough division. With games against the Steelers and Ravens remaining as well as some other tough games, the Browns will have a hard time getting a wildcard.

AFC South
 Titans 6-0
 Colts 3-3
 Jaguars 3-4
 Texans 3-4

The Jaguars need to win the rest of their division games. The Jaguars need to beat the teams they are supposed to beat. The Titans and Colts need to lose. That is all. There is no formula that needs to be followed so that they have a chance, the simple fact is the Jaguars need to play better. We ALL know that this is a playoff team. Despite your emotions you need to be able to see that. I am just as upset as anyone, but the fact is that you need to keep hope. If you don't you'll just be even more miserable than you already are. We know we can beat the Colts. We know we can beat the Titans. All we need to do is do it.

AFC West
 Broncos 4-3
 Chargers 3-5

There is no doubt in my mind that only one team will be entering the playoffs from this division. Either the Broncos are going to fade and the Chargers will win it, or both teams will be fighting through mediocrity the entire way. No matter what though, the second place team in this division will most likely not be any better than 9-7, if that.

So, in closing, the Jaguars still have a very good chance at making the playoffs. I know most people here will just see that this post is very lengthy and ignore it, but if I can help one more Jaguar fan see the light, then I believe I've succeeded in my mission.

I'd like to point out that the Texans are tied with the Jaguars as of right now at 3-4, and therefore have as good a chance as the Jaguars to make the playoffs (all four of the Texans losses are also AFC losses).

Nice post JerseyJags!

It really is quite a dogfight in the AFC this year. All the teams are improved, and beating up on eachother. The Titans are coming into some of that toughness now.

It ain't over yet.

I'm pretty sure I'd seen several of the mediots say that the Titans had a pretty good chance of starting out on a run, but went on to say that it wouldn't last.

With the Colts and Packers visiting Nashville the next two weeks, then the Titans going to Chicago and Jacksonville, they very well could be 6-4 after week 11. The last 5 or 6 weeks of the season is going to be very interesting in the AFC South, if not the entire AFC.

i share the same opinion.

looking back at last season, the Lions started out, what, 6-2 on their way to complete Kitnas outlandish remarks of a ten win season, yet missed the playoffs. the titans are clearly better than the '07 Lions, but anything could happen, especially this year.
