| First things first, be sure to take good care of it, as has been pointed out.
As far as a wireless router, they are generally the same. The most important thing to do is set up some form of security on it. I use a WEP 64/128 bit hexadecimal key. Also, BE SURE to put an Administrator Password on the router itself. You might be surprised at how many people leave their wireless routers open with the default password. Just as an example, from my home desk I can log on to 2 different neighbors' routers, and browse their networks!
Regarding Vista, it seems to be alright now that some of the "bugs" are worked out of it. I dual boot my laptop between Linux and Vista, only because I use a few Windows programs for work. My desktop computer runs Linux, and also doubles as a file/media server. I also have 2 Tivo's, my wife's Windows XP computer, a playstation 2 and a DirecTv High Definition receiver/DVR all connected on my network, some wired, some wireless. I also have 2 network printers on my network.
What's nice is with the Tivo's I can record whatever I want, download programs to my computer as mpg files and burn them to DVD. I have a library of movies and all of the Jaguars games from the past few years with no commercials.
Good luck with it, and if you need any help setting it up, shoot me a pm.
