| Hey guys, I just got home from work and can't even begin to express how disgusted I am by this. I am going to spend the rest of the night brainstorming on how we can "take down" the Folio. I refuse to let this be tolerated--I know you guys feel the same. I don't want to sound high and mighty here, but I'm willing to step up and spearhead something for all of us to participate in. This goes further than being a Jags fan this is about being a decent human being that doesn't take cheap shots at others. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about the person that wrote this article.
One of the first things that popped into my head that we could do is jut gather up all of the copies of the folio we can find and dump them on their front doorstep---I don't know how legal that is, or how illegal for that matter. It's a small first step but if we join together on this, I know we can accomplish something. We have to stand up and make a difference. This will not be tolerated--at least not by us.

I can see your point, but really?
It's not censorship to omit a reader response that was clearly some callous arsehole screwing around. It could not be seen by a reasonable person as a genuine statement, or a valid viewpoint.
Secondly, I'm positive the editorial staff would not publish comments that celebrated violence against the guy who was shot and paralyzed defending his neighborhood bar, full of his friends, who were about to get robbed in Springfield a few months back. They wouldn't allow the same comments about all the kids killed in drive-bys this year, or the stabbing at First Coast or shots fired at Ribault this month.
Because it's a professional athlete, for a team they despise, it makes print. No other reason.
Yeah, the Folio helped organize that fundraiser at Shantytown for that "Boston Tom" guy who was shot by random Springfield residents.

Ok, let me be clear: I think what was said was and is horrible. Period.
Now that that is out of the way, the OP needs to check his facts before he tries to incite a riot. The "Best of Jax" is an annual forum created by FolioWeekly to allow its readers to give their opinions. The "winners" do not necessarilyreflect the opinions of the staff or even all of its readers. For a response to be printed, it has to be sent in by a reader or (usually) multiple readers. Not the staff.
That is how Angie's Subs wins Best Sub in Jax every year, although I can't name a single patron of that establishment. To blame the newspaper or its staff is the same as blaming news anchors for reporting the news. They put themselves out there to allow such ignorance, but they bite the bullet to show what s read their paper.
Please research something before you claim to know what you're talking about. You'll sound like Sarah Palin if you don't. 
Every "Best of" in that rag are businesses that advertise in that rag.
Don't be fooled, Sarah. You're part of the problem.

I would say another idea could be to send a copy of this to one of the news media outlets here in town like FCN or Channel 4. Let them do their investigative work on it so they can shine their light on who's responsible. Bad local media would definitely hurt them.

| | ...I sent my own e-mail to the managing editor which simply stated that the submission in question is one they could have and should have left out. Of course, that is a form of censorship, and FolioWeekly, if anything, is against censorship in any form. With that logic, should the Folio have offered the "Best Reason to Diss John Lennon", bravely I might add given their leanings, and someone sent in a response, "because he gets shot", then they would have surely printed that response since they are "against censorship in any form." Please.

They should be applauded for helping that guy out. He didn't have insurance, or the means that Big Rich has.
It's just sad that Folio chose to be selective in their compassion and allowed the comment, clearly about Collier, to be printed because he was a Jaguar, when they would not have allowed such trash to be said about another.

Well aren't they so edgy, and snarky?
Adding "how insensitive" just illustrates even more how clever they thought this was. Again, it demonstrates that if you're not someone they like or approve of, you deserve no compassion from them.
Big Rich had the wrong profession and employer in Folio's eyes, so they clearly think the shooting is deserved.
