Whats with the hate on Ward? Football IS violent. Its about beating the crap out of the opposition during the time given. I love watching Ward play, because he attacks defenses. Why can a receiver get laid out while in no position to defend himself yet when a defender, a linebacker at that, gets blindsided and suffers a broken jaw everyone needs to vilify the receiver? Its Rivers' fault that he took for granted the thought of getting blindsided. If he watched any film, or knew anything about Pittsburgh, he should have known Ward loves to block and take kill shots.

Before anyone calls Keith Rivers a "poor kid", remember this, he made it through college football (where a lot of people are either not good enough or suffer career ending injuries), is a first round pick, and is making a lot of money. Plus, there is next season and he will make more money. If i could make millions of dollars, and would have to get my jaw broke, I would. The issue is that players are WORTH millions of dollars. Franchises can't afford to lose that much money to players who lose value due to injury.

Plus, how is he supposed to use his arms to slow down a linebacker? a simple rip move can remove his arms leaving Rivers' still in position to make a play. By running through him he made sure he had no chance to make a play. That. Is. Football.

Maybe I've been watching too much hockey as of late, but the NFL is becoming more and more of a pansy league because of all this whining. Let players play, and let the quarterback go down and go down hard. I love NFL classic games.

IRON MIKE DITKA SAID IT BEST.....

http://www.profootballtalk.com...ping-facemasks/

Hall of Famer Mike Ditka has a great idea for getting the helmet-to-helmet hits out of the game of football.

Take away the facemasks.

“I said a long time ago if you want to change the game take the mask off the helmet,” Ditka told a gathering of reporters on Wednesday in Pittsburgh.  “It will change the game a lot.  If you want to change the game and get it back to where people aren’t striking with the head and using the head as a weapon, take the mask off the helmet.

“A lot of pretty boys aren’t going to stick their face in there.  If you’re going to take hitting out of football, you might as well just call it soccer.  That’s what I believe.  A lot of people will be disappointed I said that, but football is what it is.  [Vince] Lombardi said it a long time ago.  Football is not a contact game.  Dancing is a contact game.  Football is a collision sport.”

Actually, we think Lombardi said, “Scratching your crotch on national television is a contact game.”

The balance between big hits and long-term player health has become a major topic of discussion recently, with the league imposing fines in an apparent effort to reverse the culture of the kill shot.

“[Y]ou can’t legislate hitting out of football,” Ditka said.  “It’s impossible.  The hit that Hines [Ward] made [against Cincinnati linebacker Keith Rivers] was a complete legitimate hit.  People will say, ‘Well, you don’t do that.’  But it’s football.  It’s always been football.  We did that in the ’60s, the ’50s, the ’40s.  It’s a blindside hit, but it’s a hit.”

On this point, Ditka sounds like he agrees with Troy Polamalu’s belief that the real motivation isn’t promoting player health but saving money.

“The first thing you’re taught as a defensive player is to put your head on a swivel,” Ditka said.  “Don’t get caught in that position.  If this would have happened 40 years ago, nobody cares.  You’re making thousands of dollars.  Now you’re making millions.  So you’re losing players who are making that much money.  You can’t afford that as organizations.  That’s why they’re going to crack down.

“Football is a tough game.  You hate to see anyone get hurt whether it was 50 years ago or now.  I know what the commissioner is trying to do, but I don’t know if taking legal hits out of the game is going to make it any different.”

This is football not soccer, not ballroom dancing, not flag football.....Quit b1tchin....Hines plays football like it is supposed to be played.

I saw the PTI interview.

Ward is such a wuss. He says "It's cool that I have a bounty, it's part of the rivalry, but look at this!" and pulls out a paper about Non-Contract Bonuses (aka the No Bounties Law).

It reminds me of a bully who sucker punches someone in the schoolyard, but says "Ha ha! You can't punch me back because now the teacher is watching!"

There has been a bounty on Hines by the Ravens for years.  He isn't afraid.  In fact, he routinely makes Suggs and their real good DB his b1tches.  He has knocked both of those guys out cold on numerous occasions.
