the Cowboys give up a 1st, 3rd and 6th for Roy Williams and they get back the Lions 7th round pick.

if someone offered the Jags the same deal for Reggie, do you think they'd jump at it? of course!

To get not only a 1st round pick (where the guy was drafted) but getting 2 more picks (and only giving up a 7th?!) who wouldn't!?

now... *chuckling* they already have a Roy Williams on the team - do they now have to go to middle initial on the jersey?!

I was actually wondering if that had ever happened before.  It's probably too confusing and Dallas will just give us the WR version to avoid any turmoil.

No one would have outbid Jerry Jones for Roy Williams...

Jerry Jones has wanted Roy Williams since he declared for the draft...it comes to me as no surprise they'd outbid everyone for him once he was truly on the market. Sure, maybe they gave up a bit much for him...but Jones LOVES him, thinks he is a superstar in Dallas for the next decade, and it brings a hometown boy home to star for the hometown team.

In case anyone needs a clue.
Pick a number between 1 and 100, Add 52, Now subtract 7, Add 4, Subtract 13, Subtract the number you started with, Divide by 2, Add 7, Multiply by 4 then subtract 9 ... Viola there's your clue.
Sam

Priceless.

It appears the Cowboys have extended Williams' contract.

Yes, good for the Lions. Does anyone know how many picks they have for next year?

Prior to this trade, the Lions didn't add any 2009 Draft picks. The Lions did trade a 4th Round pick in 2009 to Dallas, in the draft day trade that enabled the Lions to trade up for DE Cliff Avril.

So the Lions will have something similar to the number 1 pick, another around the 20th pick, the 33rd ,65th, and 85th. Will they get them right this time?

I hope your right that the Dallas 1st Round pick the Lions received is around # 20. I'm not counting on it though. Even with Tony Romo out around a month, the Cowboys could easily end up in the Super Bowl and/ or with one of the best records in the league. If the pick is even around 27 or 28, I'll consider it good news under the circumstance.

There's no question the Lions are the favor to get the # 1 pick. Though horrific officiating prevented the Lions from having a realistic opportunity to pull off an upset in Minnesota the other day, this team has too many personnel questions to expect even several wins. If a win doesn't come soon, it's not out of the question that this will be an 0-16 or 1-15 team. Players can easily lose their focus when the losses pile up, with so much uncertainty about the entire organization beyond this season.

Your guess is as good as mine regarding whether the Lions will make decisions with these picks that will turn out well. So much depends on who is making the decision and whether a high quality personnel person will be added to the organization.

Do the Lions dare go Matthew Stafford w/ the 1st overall pick?  Lord knows they need a QB, but will the Joey Harrington situation shy them away from that?

Teal N' Black, so much is going to depend on what, if anything, Dan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton demonstrate the rest of the season. Related to that will be who will be making the decisions next season.

Unless one player absolutely jumps out ( much like another Stanford QB----John Elway, did 26 years ago ), I hope a viable trade down opportunity presents itself. This is a team that needs to address multiple positions in the draft next season. In essence, the Lions need a Chiefs type of draft from this season, in terms of the amount of picks.

In addition to Joey Harrington, Chuck Long and Andre Ware were 1st Round QB busts for the Lions. Taking a QB in the 1st Round certainly hasn't produced good results for the Lions and many other teams. It's very risky but the potential reward is high.

The Lions messed up picking WR's in the 1st round also, but that didn't stop them from getting one right with Calvin Johnson.  I think the Lions and Rams will be fighting for the worst record so the winner can pick Matt Stafford.
