I like Jackson, and Cody a little more.  Haven't seen Duke play.

Here is a current  5 round selection:

1.  C, Alex Mack, California, 6-5 315 40-5.13--#1 C in the draft

2.  DT, Terrance Taylor, Michigan, 6-0 317 40-5.11--a run-stopper, but a little short to knock down passes

3.  CB, Mark Parson, Ohio, 5-10 193 40-4.38--good cover corner with speed.  question is level of play.

4.  ILB, Josh Mauga, Nevada, 6-2 246 40-4.61--playing inside this year after playing strong side last year.  has shown some pass defense skills.

5.  TE, Marquez Branson, Central Arkansas, 6-2 245 40-4.54--a little light, but has more speed than most TE.  the Jaguars experimented a little bit at TE/HB last year, but didn't have the right person to fill the role.

Antoine Caldwell IMO is by far a better C than Cal's Alex Mack, I've seen both play this season and Caldwell is much better IMHO

I also think that Caldwell should be available at the end of Rd 2. He won't be available at the end of Rd 3.

My previous mock draft was based upon a 7-9 record or something close. If the Jags are able to build a 11-5 record and draft around 28th in each round then my draft looks much different.

Rd 1(28) - Everette Brown - DE - FSU - 6'4" 255 Lbs 4.65/40

I think he comes out early and jumps up into the late part of Rd 1. He meets a continued need of the Jags to generate a pass rush. I think he can put on 15 to 20 lbs and become effective against the run. I also think that Reggie Hayward will not be kept without reworking his contract.

Rd 2(60) - Fili Moala - DT - USC - 6'4" 295 Lbs 5.20/40

His draft stature has suffered somewhat since the Oregon State game, because the USC Dline was not able to stop the run effectively. He is not a big pass rusher, but he should fit well into the Jags DT rotation. I would prefer Tyson Jackson here, but I think he will be gone by this spot.

Rd 3(92): Joe Burnett - CB - UCF - 5'10" 185 Lbs 4.45/40

I do believe that the Jags need to pick up another CB, given the injury to Scott Starks. Unlike Larry, I don't think that Joe Burnett will go in Rd 2, but will fall to the end of Rd 3. I think he offers value at this spot and should be helpful in the return game and on special teams. One thing about Burnett is that he is a ballhawk, with 12 Int over the past two season, not counting this season.

Rd 4(124) Brian Toal - OLB - Boston College - 6'1" 238 Lbs 4.67/40

Brian Toal appears to be fully healed from his shoulder injury. He is a tackling maching and another coach on the field. I think he could challenge Clint Ingram for a starting job as a rookie. I see a need at the LB spot because I am assuming that the Jags do not re-sign Mike Peterson.

Rd 5(156): Ramon Foster - OT/OG - Tennessee - 6'6" 325 Lbs 5.17/40

When Tennessee used to have an offense and culd run the ball, Foster was an integral part of an effective offensive line. Foster can be a road grader and can also pass protect. He can play both OTs and OF spots, but is probably best suited for the ORG spot.

Rd 6(188): Shawn Bayes - WR - Kent St. - 5'10" 182 Lbs 4.35/40

A deep threat that can also play the slot position. While WR is not a big need, I do expect that the Jags will allow Reggie Williams to leave via Free Agency. The Jags will look at bringing in a spped WR that can stretch the field. This year Bayes is showing himself to be that kind of WR, at least in the MAC.

Stigma (10/15/2008)

Love this draft, but I have a few questions/comments.

I think that the team will draft a late round QB to develop. Even though P. Smith is on the Practice Squad, getting cut in Training Camp is not a good sign, and M. Shula's favorite son, John Parker Wilson is a Senior. If he can be had around the 5th or even the late 4th, I can see the team drafting him.

The team turning Reggie Williams loose is a scenario that I do not envision. He has never complained about being involved in the Offense, he is a tireless worker, and he is easily the toughest WR on the roster. While I wholeheartedly agree that he has under-produced relative to his draft position, I think that he fills a role that is not easily filled. This is not to say that he is a great player, but a player that fills a specific role very well.

Do you think that the team will only address the Offensive Line with one late round selection? I go back and forth on this because the team will be getting two starters back next season, and the team would seem to have addressed the loss of R. Collier with the acquisition of C. Spencer. However, I keep thinking that they will want to get younger at the Center spot.

Go heavy early.

The question of re-signing Reggie Williams all centers on what kind of contract he is seeking. If he wants 4 Mil per season  (or more) then I don't think the Jags pay that. Unfortunately I do think that Reggie will find some team that will pay him that.

As far as drafting another QB, other than the Jr QBs coming out, there really does not look like there is much quality out there that can be developed.

Here is a small school QB that if available in Rd 5, might be worth taking...

Name: Nathan Brown

School: Central ArkansasCharacter: +

Position: QBIntelligence: //
Class: 2009Competitiveness: +
Height: 6'2"Toughness: //
Weight: 214Leadership: +
40 Time: 4.78Work ethic: +
DOB: 8/19/86Injury history: Minor
Strengths:A smart player who rarely makes a mistake with the football.  Simply doesn't force balls and won't throw many interceptions.  Handles the football well and does a nice job of selling ball fakes to freeze linebackers and safeties.  Shows excellent mechanics throwing the ball.  Throws with a nice, high release point.  Truly an artist when it comes to placement of the football, almost always places the ball exactly where it needs to be.    Has an excellent feel for the game.  Shows a good internal clock and gets the ball out of his hands quickly, won't take many sacks.  Has the poise of a 10 year NFL vet.  Cool under pressure, downright unshakeable.  Moves around the pocket well to avoid the rush.  A leader who commands the complete respect of his teammates.  Gutsy player with the ability to make something out of nothing.
Weaknesses:Brown has a slightly slower than average throwing motion.  Doesn't have the elite arm strength possessed by some of his peers.  Decent enough athletic ability, but he hasn't shown anything that would suggest other teams need to account for his running ability.  Occasionally guilty of locking on to a receiver at the expense of his progressions.  Doesn't seem to use his talented tight end (Branson) enough.  Throwing motion tends to break down when throwing some of the screens in UCA's offensive scheme, almost side-arming throws.  Footwork on this drop can be a little choppy.
Overall: In a class where the top major college quarterbacks have disappointed, Brown is one of the small college players who have shined.  A fearless leader who shows poise and leadership well beyond his years, Brown will likely be picked in the top two rounds of the draft.

I could see the Jags being tempted to take Antoine Caldwell at the end of Rd 2, (if he is still there). Still Brad Meester becomes a Free Agent this off-season and I can't see the team losing him. Ultimately, I would not be surprised if Uche Nwaneri ends up at the center spot long term.

I also like the idea of having Chris Naeole and Charles Spencer in the mix with the starters we have now.

Has anyone seen Eric Decker - the wide receiver from Minnesota - play?
