| since we only have 6 picks this year and every one wants different things, why don't we trade our 1st rounder down for 2 2nd round picks or something like that since our FO has been great with 2nd rounders!!
with 3 2nd round picks we could get a DT, LT, and WR that everyone's been wanting. and then 4 picks to sure up the Oline depth and get a developmental QB!
I think its a pretty good idea! since we just need an overall quality upgrade we don't need a lights out player at one glaring need.

| only way i would accept that is if there is no good OL worth TRADING UP for...i doubt they would trade up but fact of the matter is OL, DT, AND LB and the key positions the jaguars need...there should be some free agent WRs we could grab but i think mike walker will blossom and jerry porter will come into his own after a little while on the team

In case anyone needs a clue.
Pick a number between 1 and 100, Add 52, Now subtract 7, Add 4, Subtract 13, Subtract the number you started with, Divide by 2, Add 7, Multiply by 4 then subtract 9 ... Viola there's your clue.

| | Isn't it a little early to be talking about trading down or up on draft day? We don't even know who we will resign in FA, who may get a major injury or what our record will be. This just goes to show how big the draft has become. Some people care more about the draft then the actual season. I guess it is like playing the lotto for some people. The attraction of the "potential" prize.

thats a good analogy, i felt like we hit the jackpot when i saw a trade at #8 and the jaguars were on the clock...i literally screamed
and it would be safe to say that the jaguars will be picking around #20, however it is not out of the question that the jaguars could better or even worsen that positioning

| | Until the season is over I will always want to pick at #32 in the first. And until it can't happen that's what I will believe in. |

| | As a general rule, I prefer to stand pat. Normally I would prefer my DT and LT to be first round picks to try to get the highest quality player at those positions. Of course, this means you can't select those positions in the same year. So teams need a long range drafting plan as well as a short range plan. There are exceptions to standing pat. I think the trading up to get Groves was a good deal. We didn't give up too much to move up. The Harvey deal is a different matter. Third and fourth round draft choices are expected to make the team. We could have had Groves in round 1, Langford (DE) in round 2, a CB in round 3, a DT or OL in round 3, and a TE in round 4. Four for one is a hard deal to swallow. I don't know how much difference there is going to be between Harvey and Langford. It will probably be years before we know if the team made the right decision on Harvey. The biggest problem I have with the team roster is that when the starting CB goes down and misses a game, we almost always lose that game. We need to narrow the gap between our starters and the backup at the CB position. When we traded for Harvey, we lost the ability to pick up a more talented CB than the one we drafted and cut. Trading down over the long run lessens the athletic ability of the team's players. So although we may do it on any given year, it is not advisable in the long run. What the Jaguars do have a habit of doing is trading down in rounds 5, 6, and 7. The Jags by trading down in these rounds are saying that these players may not make the team. So let's get more of them in hopes of finding a player, ala Meier. |
