Mike Peterson is done. He looks old and slow, and is constantly "guessing" out there.  Mostly guessing wrong.  I have made a point of watching him (as much as you can on TV...) on every play and he is constantly filling the wrong hole, chasing the wrong receiver, or jumping on a guy who has already been tackled by someone else.  Benching Mike Pete and sliding Smith over won't solve everything, but it will help.  We aren't going to be able to solve everything this year.  We simply are not a dominant defense this year.

We should be looking at trading for Anquan Boldin if he gets healthy (the WR Free Agent crop for this off-season sucks), and signing Johnathan Vilma.  Julius Peppers will also be available, but there is no way we go there since we just invested so much this past off-season at that position.

How much of that 'guesswork' is Gregg Williams' you think?

Ah Yes... an excellent point.  There is a rather large variable there.  But, Gregg Williams has had success everywhere else he's been.  And Mike's decline is not as sudden as some seem to think.  I remember him running around in circles chasing Vince Young in the 2007 season opener as well.

In general, though, your right.  Only the coaches know for sure.

Oh, I agree, Mike Pete moves like he's slathered in frozen molasses. He's old and it has definitely slowed him down. But it is Gregg's schemes (it seems to me) that is having the more adverse effect on his play. As opposed to the basic "read and react" I've seen from him in the past, he's being asked to function as a portion of a called play. In other words, he isn't putting himself out of position with poor judgment/lack of speed, but Williams is with his 'sexy' defense.

Mike Pete probably should be benched, but I don't see Jack benching him.  Jack and Mike Pete have been here together since 2003 and it's kind of similar to Terry Cousin last year, TC was one of Jack's boys so Terry kept playing even though he was downright bad

I concur.  A fine example of ignorance and an overall misunderstanding of football acumen.
