| I thought the Jags should've kept him. He's certainly not an every down player but he did do the job for the Jags last year.

| FBT (10/7/2008) Trading Stroud was the bigger hit for this defense, especially if there was some real indication that he might be able to regain his health. I understood the move because of the fact that the ankle issues were going on 3 years and having an impact on his production and ability to stay on the field. However, if there was even the slightest inkling that he was potentially going to be healthy this year, some consideration had to be made to retain him.
Unfortunately, he wasn't one of "Jack's guys" and somehow found himself in the dog house. It more than likely ties back to a combination of the ankle issues, and then the suspension last year. That fractured their relationship, and once that happens, a player is not long for this roster.
We're seeing the net result of that now.
I'm starting to think Jack's ego is getting the best of him sometimes lately, in regards to both personnel decisions and overall philosophy of what the team is trying to accomplish. Hopefully these first few games are a bit of a wake up call. |

| THE BLUPRINT (10/7/2008) Since I watch every game, every week, I just watched the Packers/Falcons game. I have to say Grady played GREAT. He pushed the pocket ALOT, and he also made Rodgers run into a couple of sacks. He also did a nice job in rush defense.
Thoughts?
Well, speaking of run defense, it really doesn't matter.
Jacksonville is still very strong up the middle.
When Vic says something like "jacksonville couldn't stop the run," it's really misleading.
That's like saying Jacksonville couldn't stop the run against the Pats in the playoffs.
Yes, both backs had "good" games... but only because Jacksonville was sold out on the pass in both games all game. When they knew the team was going to run, it didn't happen. Period.
You can't expect to sell out on the pass and be able to stop every random draw play. That's why draws exist. To punish teams that sell out on the pass.
.. on vince young
David: he will find a way to throw this game away
David: even tho they already lost
Naddy: i need chargers to get a pick 6 to help out my playoff challenge
David: me too
David: that'd be nice

summed it up beautifully Dlight!!!
also notice that no one even DARES to run it up the middle on Big John. Moore bounced it outside all game and picked up all his yards on that and a few cutbacks...
we're find vs. the run but I wouldn't mind drafting a DT in round 1 since I have a feeling the 2nd and 3rd best DT's will be available later in the round. and even the 1st since theres no true Glenn Dorsey type. but I think Fili Moali would be a MONSTER next to Henderson!!!

| Glenn Dorsey would have been perfect if we had been able to trade up for him, but I have not seen Derrik Harvey enough to figure out how good he will be. Maybe the team Dorsey plays for would be willing to swap first-round draft picks with us if the defensive tackle situation is worse without Grady and Stroud, but I doubt that can happen. I think we need to worry about the pass defense first because Denver has a very good quarterback and three great receivers.

| | I miss Grady! He was that space eater, that ate up blocks, letting the Linebackers clean up. Oh well, I hope the Jags realize that, and address that in the draft.

| | I think we're seeing the culmination of several unfortunate moves. Letting Grady go, and Stroud, and McCray appears to have been more of a negative impact on our defense than the coaches anticipated. It doesn't look like Meier is as effective as an every-down player. He played well when he came in for relief, but every snap wears on him. McCray got enough of a push to keep a RB in the back field for protection, and was quick enough to go tackle. He wasn't a stellar player, but he did make some noise on the field. Grady was huge enough to require 2 guys to move him out of the way. This allows Mike Pete to make the play in the middle. Had we been able to replace these guys with equal or better players you could expect our defense to make late game stops this year. Regards............the Chiefjag
