| I agree. Maclin is the real deal, and I think he makes Daniel look that much better. He's only a sophomore though.

| | Percy Harvin. If Percy played for Missouri he would have doubled Maclin's production so far; he's a superior athlete with legit football skills i.e. hands and awareness. Plus Percy already has the body to play in the NFL while Maclin would probably be just as bad as Broussard in the bulk department for a few years. |

And you're basing all of this on what?
The fact that Harvin is a Gator and Maclin isn't?
Maclin is actually bigger than Harvin, so there goes that argument.
I don't even know where to begin with the claim that Percey is a superior athlete. I'd put them at nearly the same.

| | Like I said earlier I like Maclin over Harvin, but I do think Maclin will have a learning curve because he's basically a "rich man's" Ted Ginn at the college level, so I think he'll need to develop in the NFL because like Ginn did at OSU Maclin runs basically drags, bubble screens, screens, go route, and reverses, and returns kicks/punts but the skillset to be a good one is there for Maclin, he also needs to get used to getting off the jam

Maclin bigger? Hmmm. They have him listed at 6'1 200 but they also have Chase Daniel listed at 6'0 225 when we all know that Daniel is barely pushing 5'10 205. On the other hand, I have seen Percy Harvin in person and know for a fact that he is 6'0 and very thickly built, probably weighing about 200 pounds.
How I know he's the superior athlete? He was the top rated highschool prospect by all scouting services. NO QUESTIONS asked. Those companies base those rankings purely on athleticism. So the top prospect is the top athlete in the country. Plus what I've seen with my eyes tells me that Percy is the better athlete. He consistently outruns and jukes past SEC players and on occasion ACC players (FSU and Miami). Maclin is playing against big and slow Big 12 players. Relative to everyone else in that conference he's good but if he were in the SEC, PAC 10, or even the ACC he wouldn't be producing like he is now.
However, I'd still take Maclin on the Jags but only after Harvin has been drafted. |

You're severely underrating Maclin. He is an absolute stud. There's no way you can say Harvin would double the ridiculous numbers Maclin puts up. They are pretty much equally athletic, and almost the same build (Maclin might have an inch or two on Percy).

Harvin is listed at 5'11" 195, so again... there goes that argument. Not to mention I doubt you've seen Maclin in person.

Because scouting services had Harvin as the top rated high school prospect? I could ramble off about 20 top rated guys who wound up being terrible. That doesn't mean SQUAT.
Big and slow Big 12 players... ? ROFL
What about those Big 10 players who ran Percey Harvin down from behind in the game against Michigan?
Typical "if he's not in the SEC he's crap" garbage.
However, I'd still take Maclin on the Jags but only after Harvin has been drafted.
So, like I said before... Because Maclin doesn't play for the Gators.

opjagfan91 (9/25/2008) Maclin hands down. Florida recievers don't learn how to run routes, although they do become excellent blockers.Percy can run routes. That's not the problem. When, exactly, has he learned to run routes? Not from playing running back and not from operating out of the variated Wildhog formation. I'm sure he is able to run some routes but I feel safe assuming that Maclin is the superior route runner.

I didn't say I had seen Maclin personally. I said that they severely overstated the measurements of a star player on their team, Daniel, so it is probable that they severely overstated the measurements of another star player on their team. Just looking at Maclin on tv, he looks very very skinny; like one of the girls on 90210 or something. On the other hand, I have seen Percy up close and I can vouch for his measurements. I wouldn't be surprised if he were bigger than those measurements either.
I don't understand your comment about top rated prospects being terrible players. What does a player being terrible have to do with his athleticism? Terribleness has to do with a lack of actual football skills. Thats why sprinters aren't necessarily good football players. Percy has the athleticism and the skill, a deadly combination.
I said the ratings are based on athleticism and not on how good the player actually is. So Percy being the top prospect means that he is the best ATHLETE.
You obviously didn't watch the Michigan vs. Florida game. Michigan never caught Harvin from behind. What they did was blitz Tebow to the point where he couldn't get the ball into the hands of Percy and the other guys. I guess you could say Michigan's receivers ran away from Florida's dbs but everyone did that last year. So I don't see what you mean.
And for your point about picking Harvin because he's a Gator; well it helps for sure. Since he played in the SEC I know that he's played elite talent week in and week out and dominated no matter the opponent. Whether it's in the SEC championship or the National Championship, Percy has always exploded for lots of yards and touchdowns. I don't think Maclin has the track record.
When did I say that if he's not in the SEC he's garbage? I said that the SEC has lots of talent and lots of speed. Big 12 cold weather teams don't build their teams around speed like teams in the SEC do. When you're trying to see if a player's speed will translate to the NFL I think it would be easier to gauge if he played in a conference that actually had lots of speed like the SEC, PAC 10 and ACC. Conversely, when you're playing in a conference that is not focused on speed like the Big 12, you can't really tell it you're really fast and athletic or if everyone else is just slow.
What else you got? |

So, you've been next to Daniels IRL then... ? Or are you just making assumptions?

Just because they're the highest rated doesn't mean they're absolutely the best. What about the guys who are the highest rated who wind up being complete a total wastes of space? It's just like the draft, just because you're rated No. 1 doesn't mean you'll be No. 1.
Antone Smith was the top rated player coming out, Myron Rolle was way up there... Does that mean they're some of the best athletes in the NCAA? Absolutely not.
You obviously didn't watch the Michigan vs. Florida game. Michigan never caught Harvin from behind. I absolutely did watch the game. I've seen it a couple of times. Harvin got ran down from behind a couple of times.
The point is, not everyone outside of the SEC is slow. There are fast players everywhere, especially in the Big 12 who pulls the majority of their talent out of Texas.
And for your point about picking Harvin because he's a Gator; well it helps for sure. You don't think he does?
Maybe you should stop thinking and start watching him play. He's outproduced Harvin.

Do you watch Big 12 games ever?
I'm not so sure I'd call Oklahoma, Texas, and Mizzou "cold weather" teams.
To act like the Big 12 doesn't have speed just shows how ignorant you're being.
