| | Now that the Jags have played at least three games it appears that Mike Peterson is playing his last season in a Jags uniform. On the other side, it appears that both Khalif Barnes and Matt Jones will get contract extensions. As it stands now I think the Jags will end up with a 10-6 record and will be fighting for that last wild card spot. Here is my latest 2009 draft projection: Rd 1(24): Sean Weatherspoon - OLB - Missouri - 6'1" 235 Lbs 4.57/40 The top 4 OLT's are off the board, so the Jags move to take a Jr. OLB that can fly. The Jags will not re-sign Mike Peterson and will move Daryl Smith to the middle and surround him with Justin Durant and Sean Weatherspoon. All three LBs can run with anyone and all three can cover and tackle. Rd 2(56): Jamon Meredith - OLT - So. Carolina - 6'5" 298 Lbs 5.09/40 Meredith is very raw and has been moved from the OLT spot to the OLG spot. With Khalif Barnes re-signed, the Jags take Meredith as their developmental OLT who can also play the two OG positions. Meredith falls because of his movement to OG and because the Gamecocks' offense is not playing all that well. Rd 3(88): C.J. Spiller - RB - Clemson - 5'11" 193 Lbs 4.40/40 C.J. Spiller is a very fast RB that can catch the ball out of the backfield and can help in the return game. What he can't do is carry much of the load. He is the type of RB that should only get about 10 to 12 touches per game. I see him fitting into the Jags offensive scheme as a slot WR that is in the game with MoJo. This will give David another short dump pass target that can take the ball to the house. Spiller falls because of his limited use, much like Steve Slaton fell to the Texans last year. Rd 4(120): Demonte Bolden - DT - Tennessee - 6'5" 292 Lbs 4.98/40 Bolden is a good rotational DT that can stop the run and sometimes create some penetration. Rd 5(152): Kyle Moore - DE - USC - 6'6" 272 Lbs 4.89/40 Moore is a good rotational LDE who can offer some pass rush and decent run support. Rd 6(184): Mike Wallace - WR - Mississippi - 6'0" 185 lbs 4.38/40 Mike Wallace offers value in the return game and has some deep speed that the Jags need. |

| Mike Pete's "replacement" is already on the roster in Daryl Smith. Once Smith moves inside, Durant and Ingram would start on the outside.
At that point, you are just looking for good, quality depth. Not worth spending a first rounder on unless he is of the most elite...like Rey Maualuga.
Not sure why you are on the Jamon Meredith bandwagon, Stigma. He isn't very good, IMO. |

I think that Weatherspoon will become a STAR in the NFL. I think that Jamon Meredith is pretty good. He is not elite, but he can play both OT and OG spots. The Jags need quality depth along the OLine and I think that Meredith can provide good depth. Hey if Andre Smith, Michael Oher, Eugene Monroe or Ciron Black is available then they are clearly the pick. I think that Meredith is the 6th best OLT behind Jason Smith of Baylor but ahead of Alex Boone and Phil Loadholt. |

I doubt Spiller falls to the third. If he does, then teams are making a big mistake (just like with Slaton).

| | No doubt that Spiller is a talent, but I just have a hunch that he will fall because he is not real big and he can't carry the load. He is a complimentary RB who I think is better served catches passes out of the backfield than trying to run through the tackles. I think he falls to the last half of Rd 3. |

I think he is very much in the mold of Chris Johnson of Tennessee. They are almost identical in size and Spiller is every bit as quick, maybe not on the track, but on the field they look the same.

| I have seen Witherspoon play a few times this year and have been very impressed. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a jags uniform sometime in the future. One thing I like about him is that he is always making big plays.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he is anywhere near as tough as Johnson either. If Spiller were all that he would not be sharing the load with James Davis. Personally I don't think Davis is all that so if Spiller is then why is he not showing it on the field? To me Spiller has not carried Clemson, while Johnson defintely carried East Carolina last year. Why is that? Don't get me wrong, I think if used properly Spiller can contribute to an NFL team, but to overuse him is to invite injury. |

| If this is the year Jack goes LB in round 1, I would love to see him go with one of his USC boys. Maualuga would be a perfect middle linebacker for this team. He doesn't have the triangle numbers, but he is just a natural playmaker. All he does is make plays. If Lofa Tatupu can make as big a splash in the pros as he did, Maualuga should be able to get there and then some.
Brian Cushing is somewhat freakish. He isn't exactly an AJ Hawk or Keith Rivers or anything like that, because he doesn't have that straight line speed, but he has some legit quicks and plays well and is around the ball. He is more of a second rounder at this point, but I like what he brings to the table.
Would love to see them go with one of those players IF they go LB. But I don't think they do. At this point, it looks OL all of the way. They may have an issue at LT, they could use an interior lineman. I think several picks need to be made to the offensive line throughout the draft. As well, I'd like to see an early pick on a defensive tackle. |

| | Clearly the problem with the draft is matching the talent with the spot the talent is taken. I understand that you favor an OG if the OT is not there and I can totally see your reasoning behind such a selection. Still the defense is what is letting this team down and it is defense that JDR knows best. It is possible that JDR might take a USC LB, but somehow that is not where my hunches take me. I see speed and coverage ability being at a premium. Of course it is a given that the guy has to make tackles. Given the place where I think the Jags draft, I have a hunch that if Weatherspoon declares that is where he will be available and if available he will be the BAP for the spot. Much can happen between now and the draft, but this is what my crystal ball is telling me. It does not make me right, but it makes me feel comfortable that I am following my intuition. Intuition is very different than thinking and feeling. |
