I know Big John has the name recognition, made a Pro bowl, and yells and screams a lot, but does any of that really matter on the field?

Watching the Steelers/Browns game last night I saw Shawn Rodgers cave in the pocket on every play. He literally took his guy and pushed him back into Big Ben on every play.

Watch any NFL game and watch the pocket colapse. I ask myself, why can't we get that kind of pressure? The Jags just let the oposing QB have too much time. Who is the weak link?

I think we fall in love with our guys because they are ours, but I don't think they are great. I think Henderson is too tall and doesn't get the push some of these other DTs get like Rodgers.

Not just passing downs either, but in running plays. Big John gets stood up by the guard and then pushed to the ground. It's been a long time since I've seen Henderson in the backfield wether it's a run or a pass.

Is Spicer overrated? He had like 3 huge plays in Sunday's game.
Hayward? He also had 3 huge plays in Sunday's game including a sack.
Meier? He was constantly getting QB pressure Sunday.
Henderson? 1 tackle

This is just my opinion, but I just think Big John is overrated and the weak link on our D Line. Yeah, he's the vocal leader out there, but 1 tackle in an entire game? Big woop. Stick FBT in at DT and he could get 1 tackle. Time to step up Big John.

EDIT: Watching Shawn Rodgers today made me think of this thread again. One guy can change an entire game. We don't have anyone like that. We are 30th in the league in sacks only behind the Chiefs and the winless Bengals. We are the only 3 teams in single digit sacks. Are our guys that bad? I guess they are. The Chiefs and Bengals? We shouldn't even be in the same sentence as them. We are making average QBs look like probowlers out there.

Durant missed a couple tackles yesterday too.

If there is a problem on our d-line its Reggie Hayward.....he gets no rush at all, and Spicer up to this point has been non-existant as well.  You rarely find d tackles in this league that get a consistent pass rush.

Big John stuffs the middle and takes up two blockers every play.  Thats what he is there for.....he is not a primary pass rusher.

Big John is there to eat up blockers and allow the LBs and DEs to make plays.

Well then our DEs are overrated? If Big John is taking up 2 guys on every play that means the DEs are 1 on 1 and still can't get to the QB.

I just can't figure out why other teams with "weaker" D Lines get constant pressure and our "strong" D Line gets stuffed.

Our DEs should be making more than 2 or 3 plays a game.

It would be easier just to come out and say the that the whole defense is overtated. It's less work and it appears that you feel that the Linebackers are the defense.

Our linebackers, while being a fine young unit, had a horrible game yesterday. Mike Pete played well, but both Daryl Smith and Justin Durant were disappointing.
