| 91 Off The Edge 93 (8/31/2008) How many Georgia games did you watch while he was there?
I've seen his play before I rec'd him, if thats what you're asking.
I also did reading/ reasearch of the player as well, before any recommendation.
I can usually tell to a certain degree of accuracy, (granted not 100% no one is) if a player is going to be successful in the pro's or not just by looking at his highlight reel. There are things you can look for/ pick up, such as quickness/ athleticism/ fluidity/ burst/ acceleration/ technique/ etc etc.
It's the reading up on the player where you make up for the info that you might not have gotten a chance to see on the highlight clips.
IMO, one doesn't have to watch every single game of every player to be good at projecting what players are going to be good pro's or not.
In addition to watching the players & reading up on them, people usually have a gut instinct that also factors into the mix.
Like how my gut instinct was right on Charles Rogers a few years ago, despite people painting him as a can't miss. David Clowney is another player who I just had a negative feeling about.....Rogers turned out to be an injury case and Clowney is already following quickly in those footsteps.
I've been doing my projections for over 15 years and more often than not, I am usually correct in them. Perhaps the people you idolize have more resources and are more thorough in their evaluations...still ain't making them more accurate, thats for sure. Ever hear of "paralyzation by overanalyzation"?
This ain't rocket science. Its football, and it don't take much to see which players can play & which ones can't....at least for me, anyway.
Congratulations to the 2008 WORLD Champions, your Philadelphia Phillies!

Watching highlights shows you one side of a player. Especially considering we're talking about a player that wasn't perceived by many scouts and teams to have first round talent. Highlights are probably a better inidicator for top 10 talent. There are lowlights as well. When a team doesn't keep and try to develop a high second rounder - it tells you something. Bottom line: Highlights aren't a full body of work. Full games are. EDIT: This is just my "irrelevent" opinion, though. It doesn't have the relevence involved in your insight and knowledge.

| CowboyBarry (8/31/2008) "Quinn Gray just threw an awesome TD pass! Looks like I was right!"
TMD, for all any of us know, you may be right about QM. Most of the time you'll save face by letting things play out before making such bold statements, though.Or, delete the thread when it blows up in his face.

| was TMD's above post a serious one? it couldnt have been... no one could be that ignorant and say you can pick up on who is going to make it and who isnt by a highlight real...
dear god... TMD is more pathetic than i even thought
Rashean the I-N-T Machine Mathis- best CB in the game
TMD's "predictions" so far for 08 season:
-Minnesota and Philly in the NFC championship game with Minnesota in the Superbowl
-Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game
-Houston a top 5 rushing team in the 09 season
-Houston seeded higher in the playoffs than the jags
- jags finishing 9-7 at best
- Browns finish better than the Jags
-Jags finish last in the AFC South after a bad showing in the preseason
TMD and I have a bet for $100 on the Jags wins
-Denver winning the AFC West LOL
-Bengals over Jags 24-21

| If you read the Miami papers, you would realize he was among the last players to make the team. He will likely be inactive a large part of the season. What mistake did the Raiders make besides drafting him?

The Raiders cut him too quickly. They never gave him a real chance to develop.
Heck if you extrapolate the Raiders hastiness as exampled with Moses & use a similar tact here, Reggie Williams & Marcedes Williams probably wouldn't even be Jags today.

Regarding Quentin Moses, I hope you are right. I liked him in the draft and you are the only guy who had his back around here. I don't make bold predictions usually (I swear Brady Quinn will be a stud, but I said the same of Joey Harrington- prolly blinded by anguish watching leftwich fall all over himself in our backfield). Even now think Quentin's chances are still slim. He must be doing something wrong.

Marcedes Lewis was injured during the preseason his rookie year. What a valid comparison.
