Big John (9/9/2008) This is a little off where the topic has gone but...
I'm watching the replay of UF/UM on CSS. Miami's DLine absolutely took it to florida. They dominated the line of scrimmage. Sean Spence is a beast. If they had any kind of an offense, then I think they win the game. I'm scared to play Miami.
PS. I can't believe they gave Carl Moore a catch on the sideline. He never had possession.
Yeah, when I was watching it I was like "So, basically what the refs are saying is if that happened in the middle of the field, it would have been a fumble."
We all know that wouldn't have happened.
No, because somebody who knows CFB would know there is no down by contact when it comes to catches, or any situation for that matter. When anything other than your hand touches, you are down. If that happened in the middle of the field, it's either a catch or an incompletion, just like on the sideline.
*waits* (I didn't realize how funny this was until I actually tried it).
Unless the rules of college football are drastically different than the NFL (which is entirely possible), you have to maintain possession through the ground. If you catch and land on the ground and the ball immediately pops out, it's an incomplete pass. There is a 0% chance it's a catch if it happens in the middle of the field. ZERO PERCENT.
But that is not what you said. You said it would be a FUMBLE. Not an incompletion, not a dropped pass, but a fumble. It could never, ever be a fumble. In my opinion I didn't think it was a catch. But the refs didnt hand them anything. It was ruled incomplete. You have a beef? Take it up with the replay assistant.
And if you want to talk about UF sneaking in, if replay doesn't screw over UF against Auburn, their th #2 team in the nation and finish undefeated. You get some calls, you lose some calls. |

| | I didn't think it was a catch. I realized that when they were taking so long that it was going to end up being a catch.

If it was a "catch" on the sideline, they umpires are saying that he had possession, so if the ball pops out it's a fumble because in the middle of the field there is no sideline.
Then again, this is college football and their rules are retarded.

Well your theory would make sense if, and only if, the ball hit the ground while Moore had possession and popped out without any part of Moore touching the ground. So the tiny, tiny spot of the ball that could remotely hit the ground and fly out without a body part touching the ball is the only way your theory works.
Then again you could just look up the rules of college football and know that a player doesn't have to be touched down to be ruled down. Once any body part hits not his hand, no matter where on the field, he is down. So Moore is either down by the RULES OF THE GAME, or its an incompletion. NEVER a fumble.
But keep trying to make me look stupid by telling me theres no sideline in the middle of the field. I'll just make you look stupid by explaining the game of college football to you. And you'll blame it on its rules being retarded, and not the person who just doesn't know them. |

| I guess you didn't read the part where I said unless the rules are different than the NFL (which is entirely possible), or when I said then again, it's college and their rules are retarded.
Try reading.
Par for your course, I guess.

| So just admit you don't know the rules of the game. I explained the rule twice to you. Still, you tried to make me look stupid, but kept some wiggle room.
Next time, don't try to make me look stupid when you are doing a fine job doing it to yourself. Sidelines in the middle of the field? Gee! Who knew?
If you don't even know some of the most basic rules of college football, then you can't make any justified arguments. |

I wasn't trying to make anyone look stupid.
When I do that, you'll know.

| | It's an incomplete pass and it can't be a fumble because (1) he never had posession and (2) the ground can't cause a fumble. It's the same in the NFL as far as I know. |
