Thanks for that report FBT. Now if you went and put it on a site that the Upshaw family had a personal interest in, then I'd say you goofed/gaffed. I think it's entirely appropriate for this site. This is an informational forum.

RIP Gene.

Without a doubt.

No reply from the original dude ripping him, wonder why??

What machine head was saying, and what apparently NOBODY gives a flying F about, is that this story  was presented as "Gene Upshaw is dead, and this is how it affects our salary cap"

Couldn't wait 30 seconds. Machine head  wasn't on a high horse for pointing out FBT's Gaffe.

It's only natural to EVENTUALLY talk about his passings effect, but to mention the guys dead and then one sentence later starting talking about a GAME is a bit much. I personally couldn't stand Upshaw, but I imagine a moment of respect would be the humane thing.

I'll give FBT props, he lives and breathes and talks Football, it's his complete life, even in the lobby of the funeral home.

Like most Leaders, I am certain that he had supporters of his position in Executive roles.  Whomever replaces him may well be cast in his mold.  Some veteran players were against what he was doing, but once they are reminded that if rookies were a lot cheaper than themselves (thru a stronger rookie cap), the Free Agency Market would dry up; I think they'll continue to seek the SAME type of CBA as we have today.

Also, League think is not just driven by the NFLPA.  Large market owners are clearly not on the League think page.

Ive seen other stories with more relation to the Jags moved to NFL At Large.

Sad news for the Upshaw family.
True.

Although this is a huge NFL story that would easily fit within any teams' MB home forum.

well if TMD had posted it, itd be a goner.

the rules around here seem to be very.... uh... flexible.

NFL.com has it on their cover page and I also heard it on Mike and Mike this morning.

Apparently, he found out Sunday and passed away early today; therefore, I don't think there was much time to digest the news and release a statement.

RIP Gene Upshaw

Condolences to your family and friends.

I hope the talk of your replacement and the impact would at least wait 24 hrs to allow the family to deal with this but, alas I don't see that happening.

I'm sure if there was a 24hr wait someone would still complain.  BTW, who are you talking to?

There were cracks starting to form beneath him.  Players were frustrated by some of the stances he had taken recently, in particular with regard to the rookie salary cap.  There was a movement that had already started among the team representatives to look beyond Upshaw.

League-think died with expansion and the explosion of revenues.

Maybe he related it to the Jags to place the story within this forum?

Perhaps some individuals take things that don't affect them personally wayyyyyy too personally.

Keep in mind that the individual in question here is personally insulted by my camp reports.

Also keepin mind that if this guy didnt have a huge impact on the NFL/Jags it never would have been posted.

The guys dead it effects the Jags....I like your points on this one.
