| Jags4champs (8/20/2008) The Cards don't want to pay Boldin the money he is asking for, what makes you think they are willing to do that for Harvey? The trade imo would be a great one for the Jags, but a poor choice for the Cards.
But you're forgetting....part of the reason they don't want to pay Boldin is because they already have a ton invested in the WR position in Fitzgerald.
Harvey plays not only a different position but on the other side of the ball.
IMO, the problem is not just the money per se, it is the money tied up into one specific area of the football team.
Congratulations to the 2008 WORLD Champions, your Philadelphia Phillies!

BJORN TOURAQUE (8/20/2008) The Jags don't want to pay Harvey, why would they pay Boldin? Proven? They reached all the way up for Harvey, that means they think he has great worth. Just not what the market thinks. Why would they be willing to change that philosophy for a proven player?

I can't tell you what they are thinking like some others on here, but maybe they don't feel like a deal with Harvey will get done on their terms so are willing to part with his rights to another team. Do I think the trade will happen? Not at all honestly, but if it did I would embrace the idea. If it doesn't happen I won't really care either. I have faith that our FO will get the job done either way.

| TheSpacePope (8/20/2008) I don't think you can call a WR with an average of 12 yards per catch (13.2 for his career) a Superstar. Boldin's a possession WR.
Jagwired'd is to moderators as a wrongfully accused killer is to the court of law.I show off my anger after Jags losses. I can't help myself. | |

So everytime the guy catches a pass it's a 1st down? You're right, the guy's a loser. He's better than any receiver on the Jaguars right now. He's more of an answer than Porter, Williamson, et al. |

| The Mad Dog (8/20/2008) The rights to DE Derrick Harvey + Matt Jones
in exchange for
WR Anquan Boldin + DE Calais Campbell
That solidifies our WR corps and also gets us a DE in return.
They get a DE that was a top 10 selection to add to another great D rookie Cromartie, and Matt Jones, who at least provides them a WR replacement.
This is so inane, I am having a hard time coming up with a response that will be elementary enough that you can understand it.
WR's are a dime-a-dozen position. This team found a perennial 1,000 yard WR off of the scrap heap in Jimmy Smith. Steve Smith was a 3rd round pick. Cris Carter was a 4th round pick. You can get WR's anywhere.
How many 6-5, 275 lb DE's that run a 4.8 are there? Dear God in heaven man, you are talking about giving away an every down DE, the one position that this team has never really had over a long term, for a WR and a DE that has question marks about whether or not he can beat a double-team? How does any of this scenario make sense?
I think that the fantasy football has gotten to your head waaaaaayyyy too much if you think that thing that you call an idea has any basis whatsoever in reality.

I think that the fantasy football has gotten to your head waaaaaayyyy too much if you think that thing that you call an idea has any basis whatsoever in reality. yeah, WRs are a dime a dozen and the two recent guys that the Jags picked up are worth a dime at this point. They are both nicked up and on the mend, not to mention that they have done nothing here (yet). If/when Porter gets to 100%, it could be week six before we see him on the field. Then, if he's lucky, he won't re-injure the hammy. Same can be said for Harvey, who by the way, is only running a 4.8 around some lawn chairs he has set up in his back yard to simulate and O-line. Do you think if they sign him today that he will be NFL game ready in week 1? H*ll to the no. HE TOO will be ready to play in the NFL by mid-season. BUT the Jags would throw him into the fire in week 2 at the latest and he would be at a high risk for injury due to lack of reps in training camp and the pre-season. Then where does that leave you? With 17 or 18 million sitting on IR. Boldin is a stud receiver who is proven. The Jags have Groves and a defensive coordinator who likes to blitz corners and safeties to disrupt QBs. If a Boldin can get 8-10 TDs and the team can average 24 - 31 points per game, then you can outscore opponents instead of shutting them down defensively and sqeaking by. Just my opinion. |

Just so I have this right; You advocate the idea of considering the money paid to J. Porter and T. Williamson as a sunk cost right now without seeing any play time out of them, and also trade away what just might be the 2nd or 3rd best draft pick that this team has ever brought in.
All of that for a 'proven' WR that has complained about his contract for the past three off-seasons, and has never had a TD season like R. Williams did last year, and a guy that timed out in the 40 at a DT's pace.
How was 'Franchise' mode last night?
