Drifter, you might want to consider that you are being totally suckered in by this guy before you start touting your generation as any smarter than mine. This guy is obviously playing you for a fool. Point noted...... I should have read the "Do Not Feed The Ducks" Sign

Tickle Me Emo (8/18/2008) I think all of these measure ought to be implemented immediately. I don't think you've been a student in quite some time. Things are much harder now, and kids are entitled to be encouraged by success. Clearly, you're not an educator.Dude, I went back to College at age 38 and it was easier then High School. Things are NOT harder now... it's just that the Teachers FAILING to teach critical thinking and problem solving. Get back to the Basics instead of teaching this P.C. Multi-culturalism shiite and MAYBE kids will pass without all this BS. Um, yes they are harder. You know what the problem really is? Kids don't succeed early on and they lose motivation to do well in school. By handing out good grades, we encourage our kids to perform at higher levels. I think it's pretty self-evident. Things are sooo much tougher nowawdays. Kids have to worry about bullies, parents not understanding, and waaaay too much work. Kids have much more homeworks now than they did before. It's just the way it is. That's the biggest bucket of BS I have ever heard!!! You actually think that just GIVING someone a good grade even if they didn't earn it makes them work harder??? No, it makes them even more lazy because now they know that no matter what they do they aren't going to fail!! That's like saying that people on welfare are more likely to go to work because they are already getting a check!! That's not how it works!!! Getting something for nothing makes you complacent, it doesn't make you strive to do better!!!

Young minds are impressionable and need reassurance. That is why giving out good grades isn't that big a deal. Like, in kinndurgarden they don't give out F's and stuff. Why? Because that would discourage kids from trying. You have to build people up before you tear then down. I don't even know what you're talking about welfare for.

This is pretty disturbing, but quite the example of the dumbing down of the U.S.A. While it is in Dallas, expect more and more of this. Dallas ISD defends changes in grading policy 12:05 PM CDT on Saturday, August 16, 2008 By KENT FISCHER / The Dallas Morning News kfischer@dallasnews.com Dallas school superintendent Michael Hinojosa and two trustees defended new classroom grading rules Friday, and urged teachers and parents to learn more about the requirements before dismissing them as misguided. AT A GLANCE: Grading changes •Homework grades should be given only when the grades will "raise a student's average, not lower it." •Teachers must accept overdue assignments, and their principal will decide whether students are to be penalized for missing deadlines. •Students who flunk tests can retake the exam and keep the higher grade. •Teachers cannot give a zero on an assignment unless they call parents and make "efforts to assist students in completing the work." •High school teachers who fail more than 20 percent of their students will need to develop a professional improvement plan and will be monitored by their principals. For middle school the rate is 15 percent; for elementary it's 10 percent. The whole story can be read here. Yeah, that's pretty bad. IMO, most of our issues with education start at home. If kids aren't taught good study habits, they are wasting their time in the school system for 12-13 years. Without putting in work outside of the classroom, school is basically just a day care. Drifter, you might want to consider that you are being totally suckered in by this guy before you start touting your generation as any smarter than mine. This guy is obviously playing you for a fool. I disagre. Why should kids have even more work to do at home. Kids should have time play play outside. I don't understand the point of homework.

Yeah, but that's the real world. That's not school. I remember teachers telling us, "oh in high school they don't accet assignments late" when I was in middle school. Guess what? They accepted assingments late in high school. You guys want to make it seems harder than it really is.

One thing that this thread is reinforcing to me is that Political Correctness is slowly killing the United States. It's absolutely tragic.

| | Yeah it's only school... but what you lean in school should prepare you for the real world... do you think your boss... that is assuming you can even find a job... is going to cut you so slack and let you turn in ANYTHING late that his company depends on day to day... do you think your boss... and once again that's assuming you can find a job... will give you a "passing" grade on your work he is depending on from you when you are not doing your job... Like I said... the REAL world looks for people like you to eat... and you sound like you are on your way for a success story in failure... Good Luck... because the system is already full of kids like you who always looks for the easy way out...
