In today's Ask Vic (3rd Person Style), Vic suggests that the Jags draft a young QB in the 2009 college draft. I certainly can see the logic in that move, but why wait if the Jags can pull off a deal with the Dolphins.

When the Dolphins signed Chad Pennington, they immediately created a crowded QB roster situation. Behind Pennington, the Dolphins have John Beck, their Rd 2 pick from 2007, Chad Henne, their Rd 2 pick from 2008 and Josh McCown, the QB they signed in Free Agency from the Raiders. The rumor mill suggests that John Beck may be the odd man out because he was not drafted or signed by the Tuna. If such is the case and the Dolphins are forced to release or trade John Beck prior to the start of the regular season, then perhaps the Jags should consider sending a Rd 5 pick to the Dolphins for John Beck.

I would not give up more than a Rd 5 pick for Beck, but I think he offers value to the team as a No. 3 QB for a 2009 Rd 5 pick.

So what do you think?

I was thinking about that today when reading  how Beck may possibly be the odd man out in Miami.  Then I realized we will probably only go with 2 QB's this year again, and Lemon is set at #2.  I doubt they would want to pay anybody more than they are paying Bouman to be #3 anyways.

Beck is already 26 or 27 years old. By the time he is developed and gets to play, he will be Garrard's age and we would have to repeat the process.

Thats why.

He's old for a "young QB" and doesn't he have a weak arm?

+1

I'd rather try to get Simms before I went after Beck.

If you thought Cleo Lemon didn't surprise you in Miami then I don't know what to think of Beck. he was drafted at age 26 and is like 27 right now... by the time you develop him his prime will be long gone and the 2 years you get out of him weren't worth the 4 years you developed him for. I say just draft a 5th round type guy in the 2009 draft that is around age 22 and let him develop for about 4 years so when he's 26 he's ready to go and will give us about 7 years of production if Garrard somehow declines during that time.

Reggie Williams + David Garrard = 10 TD's!

I dont think people should get hung up on his age.  a players "prime" is all relative to when they get in the league imo.  if you are a playing a guy that is only 19 years old, his prime years probably wont be when he is 26-28.

i think you have to find a balance between one's age and how many years of football one has played.

If he's released, I'd be all for it.

Trading? Meh.
