| The Mad Dog (8/8/2008) I find that hard to believe.
Our rushing game down the stretch was averaging like 160 YPG.
I don't remember our rushing game being all that effective in the opener or following week against the Falcons.Yea but the whole team didn't play well early on. Even against the Falcons or Titans the defense could have been better. Norman is more than capable and, not to sound trite, "will be fine."

| | I'm wondering if it's the YPC he was referencing... the way Tennessee rushed on us last season I cannot imagine we had that many carries in that game. YPG doesn't tell the entire story.

Its Meier Time (8/8/2008) I hate helping out TMD, but we rushed for 131.5 yards/game without Meester and 150.3 yards with him.
Still if we kept that pace of 131.5/game for the year, we'd be the 6th best rushing attack in the NFL.
I just looked that up too. The fact of the matter is though that the increase in rushing yards had nothing to do with Meester's return and everything to do with Fred Taylor exploding after the game in Tennessee. The rushing offense will be fine with or without Brad Meester. I'm more curious to see how the pass blocking is working out, considering we are trying to throw the ball deep more often.
I think the biggest factor to our run game improving was maurice williams at RG. If anyone watched him on some of fred's big runs, he was the main reason. He was incredible at RG last year.
Rashean the I-N-T Machine Mathis- best CB in the game
TMD's "predictions" so far for 08 season:
-Minnesota and Philly in the NFC championship game with Minnesota in the Superbowl
-Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game
-Houston a top 5 rushing team in the 09 season
-Houston seeded higher in the playoffs than the jags
- jags finishing 9-7 at best
- Browns finish better than the Jags
-Jags finish last in the AFC South after a bad showing in the preseason
TMD and I have a bet for $100 on the Jags wins
-Denver winning the AFC West LOL
-Bengals over Jags 24-21

| The Mad Dog (8/8/2008) Jeezus dude....one post by FBT & your "convinced".
Have some conviction.
I mean one punch & you're out??
I think your initial post does raise some concerns.
FBT is never going to admit that the team has any problems. He always says "X player will be fine" or "whatever sapect of the team will be fine".
It will take more than that for me to be convinced.
Lets see THIS years team start off 3-1 with this schedule, and maybe the next time FBT says "we'll be fine" I will give that more cred. This team could start off 4-0 and you'd still find something to whine and moan about because that's just who you are.

huffdaddy52 (8/8/2008) Yes, Norman has filled in quite nicely for us the past couple of years. After looking at the stats from our early games last year (the ones where Meester was out) I noticed that we didn't exactly run the ball very well those first couple of games. (The argument could be made that we were still "gelling" as an offense.)
This year we can't afford to start off slow because of 3 out 4 games to start the season are against division opponents.
Also, the news of Norman getting hurt worry me( although, the reports are that it isn't very serious).
This isn't a sky is falling post, but, I think we maybe overlooking the injury to Meester a little bit.
Am I being paranoid?
Thoughts??
Did you also notice that the team had just cut the starting quarterback that they had been preparing to start the season with, and had crafted the playbook around?
Or, did you notice that they were installing a brand new offense last year at the start of the season?
Meester's absence won't be as significant as you think. Norman will be fine.
As far as starting off slow, what was our record after 4 games last year?
I think you're being a little paranoid.
Good points.
I guess I was being paranoid.

Well, he raised some points that I didn't think about while starting this thread. It's called being open-minded.
But you wouldn't know anything about that would you, TMD?
After you were praising the new regime in Houston for drafting Mario Williams, Demeco Ryans, etc, I corrected you and reminded you that Charlie Casserly made those picks, you then back-tracked by saying he was a lame duck GM that had nothing to do with those picks...
See, I can at least be open-minded about certain topics or admit when I am wrong.
You can do neither.

You said you did the research about the beginning of the year when Norman was out, same happened at the end of the season.
Huh?

| IIRC, Norman was thrown into starting last year when Meester was hurt.
This year, he gets the whole preseason before the games count.

That's pretty much the case with TMD as well as some others on here.
