FBT (8/8/2008)
huffdaddy52 (8/8/2008) Yes, Norman has filled in quite nicely for us the past couple of years. After looking at the stats from our early games last year (the ones where Meester was out) I noticed that we didn't exactly run the ball very well those first couple of games. (The argument could be made that we were still "gelling" as an offense.)
This year we can't afford to start off slow because of 3 out 4 games to start the season are against division opponents.
Also, the news of Norman getting hurt worry me( although, the reports are that it isn't very serious).
This isn't a sky is falling post, but, I think we maybe overlooking the injury to Meester a little bit.
Am I being paranoid?
Thoughts??Did you also notice that the team had just cut the starting quarterback that they had been preparing to start the season with, and had crafted the playbook around? Or, did you notice that they were installing a brand new offense last year at the start of the season? Meester's absence won't be as significant as you think. Norman will be fine. As far as starting off slow, what was our record after 4 games last year? I think you're being a little paranoid. Good points. I guess I was being paranoid. Jeezus dude....one post by FBT & your "convinced". Have some conviction. I mean one punch & you're out?? I think your initial post does raise some concerns. FBT is never going to admit that the team has any problems. He always says "X player will be fine" or "whatever sapect of the team will be fine". It will take more than that for me to be convinced. Lets see THIS years team start off 3-1 with this schedule, and maybe the next time FBT says "we'll be fine" I will give that more cred. Something to think about. The Jaguars rush per game was actually higher when Norman was in last year than when he was out. I'm not saying Norman is better, but I don't think Meester is a big injury (when we have a guy like Norman backing him up). I think Jerry Porter and Reggie Williams are more of a concern. The Jags have looked very good in training camp and from all reports this team is going to be in the mix for sure. Watch out for Tony McDaniel. I remember you saying that missing Stroud would hurt us. If Tony keeps playing like he is, you'll be saying "Stroud who?".

| | Weren't we like 3-1 without him? And we'll be getting Brad back by what? Week 6? Norman will be fine. The Jags always find a way to step up after someone goes down, and I don't see history changing. We've had better players than Meester go down and still managed to go 11-5 and win a playoff game. (Peterson, Garrard, Stroud)

| | JTmoney, dont be saying things like our rushing game was better with norman. You will make TMD totally disappear from the discussion on how we are doomed, and how shack stinks cuz meester got hurt. you know he cant deal with stats and proof.

TMD's "predictions" so far for 08 season:
-Minnesota and Philly in the NFC championship game with Minnesota in the Superbowl
-Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game
-Houston a top 5 rushing team in the 09 season
-Houston seeded higher in the playoffs than the jags
- jags finishing 9-7 at best
- Browns finish better than the Jags
-Jags finish last in the AFC South after a bad showing in the preseason
TMD and I have a bet for $100 on the Jags wins
-Denver winning the AFC West LOL
-Bengals over Jags 24-21

| I find that hard to believe.
Our rushing game down the stretch was averaging like 160 YPG.
I don't remember our rushing game being all that effective in the opener or following week against the Falcons.

Thats just 1 more of your amazing GM skills, able to pretend that stats arent real when they dont help your argument.

I just know that I have never heard you say anyting positve about the Jags, for about.......2 years now. BTW, how did ya boy Ray Rice do against the patriots scout team? He sure looked alot like mojo didn't he? Do you ever have anything positive to say, or is it always doom and gloom?

I don't remember our rushing game being all that effective in the opener or following week against the Falcons.I'm going by what Tom McManus stated on his show. He did the average yards per game and he was surprised by the numbers. It wasn't a huge difference, but it was like 5 to 10 yards per game. If he is incorrect then that means I am incorrect. I found the numbers to be surprising as well. His point was that we didn't seem to miss a beat with Norman in there. That's a GOOD thing. Teams who can overcome injuries do very well. We just have to overcome. And we have great depth on this team.

| apparently its ok that rice did bad, cuz it was against starters, you know, because he would never be asked to run against starters if he got playing time

No Vrable, Seymour? Thomas? Brushci? Oh wait, Brandon Merriwhether played, so I guess that is why he didn't play as well. But somehow, Shack and the FO made him run for 2.7 ypc.
