Keith Rivers - LB - Cincinnati Bengals

Aug 4, 2008

The Bengals are closing in on a deal with first-round pick Keith Rivers, according to Profootballtalk.com.

It appears Monday's depth chart listing Rivers as third string may have expedited talks. The camps haven't reached an accord to this point mostly because No. 8 choice Derrick Harvey is unsigned. Rivers was the ninth overall pick. The 10th pick, Jerod Mayo, signed a five-year, $18.9 million pact with the Patriots. That deal included $13.8 million guaranteed.

Good

Kevin from Orange Park, FL:

What’s your reaction to Hines Ward breaking rookie LB Keith Rivers’ jaw?

Gee, MD, do you think that if this deal is more in line with the tradition 10% mark-up that the Jags won't ever win a superbowl with Shack as the GM?

Maybe I missed where he complained? Sometimes I think people rag on TMD because everyone is doing it and it must be cool to follow them.

The #10 pick didn't sign for much at all. Of course, a high percentage of his contract is guaranteed. I wouldn't mind a contract similar to his.

This will set the frame work for a compromise on Harvey's deal. It will narrow the window that the contract should be in between the 7 and 9 picks instead of the 7-10 window they were dealing with. I'll bet you will see Harvey under contract within a few days of the Cincy deal.

I got to camp for the first time tonight, and from what I watched, Harvey is hurting no one more than himself.
