D6 (7/24/2008) I'm very surprised that San Francisco isn't one of the ten Metro Areas. You missed where it said "in the south" David.
When you have been forced to see the effects of the disease on the streets everyday for as long as San Franciscans have, you tend to take MORE steps to protect yourself from it than someone who thinks it's only something they see on the television.

Baltimore and Washington aren't in the south, jagubeeria
Although Baltimore and Washington DC are not considered to be in the south, they actually are if you're considering the civil war the event that decided north from south. They are both south of the Mason Dixon line which is the northern border of Maryland.
From Wiki-----
The Mason-Dixon line became symbolic of the division between the "free states" and "slave states" from the Missouri Compromise until the end of the American Civil War. Pennsylvania abolished slavery before the end of the American Revolution while Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky, and Missouri remained slave states until the end of the war.

| | They didn't limit it to the south, it just turned out that 9 out of 10 were in the south, if you include B/W as in the south. San Fran was not excluded, it just didn't make the list. New York City was on the list and it is definitely not in the south.

So the federal capitol was a confederate stronghold?
Can I look at your history book?

| BJORN TOURAQUE (7/26/2008) So the federal capitol was a confederate stronghold? DC was not a confederate stronghold, but it was entirely surrounded by states in or sympathetic to the Confederacy. The only reason Maryland didn't join the Confederacy was because the Federal troops took the cannons (on a place called Federal Hill) defending Baltimore harbor and pointed them at the city.

| | I live in a suburb of Columbia, SC which has roughly 100,000 people in the city limits. So if there are 28 people per 100,000 that have HIV that would mean there are only 28 people in Columbia with HIV. That compares to a national average of 1 in every 300 people who have HIV, based on the numbers provided in the other link which says there are roughly 1 million people in the US with HIV. That's roughly 1 in every 300 since there are 300 million people living in the US. So I guess it's safe to assume the city near where I live is far below the national average for HIV rate since to meet national average there would need to be 300 people in Columbia with HIV. I need some new clothes and a microhpone!!! |
