| | It would not surprise me to see them bring in a camp cut or two. But, I think it would be offense, not defense. At safety, Sammy Knight has been replaced with the transition of Brian Williams and backed up with the return of Gerald Sensabaugh. Another aging veteran stop gap player, such as Sammy Knight, is not needed. The 4th safety will be a young developmental safety that can contribute to special teams this year. If it is determined that Wrighster and Estandia are not back to full 100% health at camp, it would not surprise me to see Jack/Shack bring in a vet backup for Lewis at TE. Tight end will be an important role in Koetter's offense with Garrard, and Angulo is not the answer. I don't think they'll pay the coinage for a talent such as Shockey, but look for the 2nd tier vet. At WR...Will Porter's repaired hamstring be ready for the season? Will Walker's knee hold up without swelling to fulltime playing and hitting? Will Williamson's impressive hands in practice vanish when the hits become live? Will Jone's improve and not get cut (or suspended)? If during camp at least 2 of these questions appear to be "no", then it would not surprise me to see another WR acquired to the roster. |

The Mad Dog (7/18/2008) S Greg Wesley is now a FA and I'd certainly rather have him as a backup than Pierson Prioleau.
Wesley could be this year's version of Sammy Knight. Is Prioleau even gonna make the team? The 4th safety, if we even carry one, will be one of the very last cuts. Have we ever not carried 4 safeties? did we carry 4 last year? Nelson, Sensabaugh, Knight, and who else? I wasnt conting Nkang. Fudge and Gattis were cut before the opener. If there was a 4th guy I cant remember.

| | I hope that the jags bring in more competition for safety. What could it hurt? If someone isn't good enough, then you cut them. I just feel that the jags need more depth for the position. Regarding Pierson Prioleau, if the jags brought him in, then Greg Williams must have seen something in him while he was at Washington.

That 4th Safety is typically the Special Teamer. When Sensabaugh went down last season, the team brought Fudge back, maintaining the 4th Safety.
Go heavy early.
You do not maintain perfection, you work for it everyday.

| | Last year, FYI... Besides Nelson, Knight, and Fudge, the Jags signed Lamont Thompson in November as the 4th safety. |

Stigma (7/19/2008) Hey if the Jags could get Jeremy Shockey for their 2009 Rd 2 pick, I think that would be an absolute steal for the Jags despite the fact that Shockey might not be ready for the start of the 2009 regular season. If you listen to most of the msg board, they'll tell you that Geo Wrighster is better than Shockey and Shockey wouldn't help us. Good thing i know better than to listen to most of this msg board. I'd love for the Jags to add Shockey and pair him with Marcedes. The Jags would have a top notch TE corps, as well as a player on offense that has the fire of a defensive player. I could see Shockey being an emotional leader to this offense. Shockey and Marcedes could be nice. But not for a 2nd rounder as suggested a few higher. No way, no how. Looks like a was lowballing the price for Shockey. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8364800/Sources:-Giants-to-trade-Shockey-to-Saints |

He greatly improves that TE position. Another weapon for Brees. If their defense can play decent, they may take the NFC South this year.

So "not counting Nkang"? Well, he's a safety.

| | uh... and im sure when listing the TEs we all count Zelenka too. last year their opening day 53 only had three guys who would actually line up in the secondary and play safety. so going back to the original point, I dont see the point in grabbing Wesley to replace Prioleau when Prioleau probably will be the last safety cut.
