I think Packers have made the right call. I've been a hugh BF and Packer's fan. I have all the respect in the world for what he's accomplished and what he's meant to that franchise. But really, the childish on again, off again behavior every year, its just been too much. Even as recently as this March, he said he would be back from retirement and the team said OK, then its "OH, nevermind..."

Best they get some value for him in a trade. I suspect thats what will ultimately happen. Lets just hope it's not to someone in our division. Though he's not what he was, he still has plenty of gas in the tank.

I'd love to see him play again. Just not against us.

I'd love to see a few of those picks.

Didn't the Packers spend two draft picks on quarterbacks Brohm and Matt Flynn.  So , if Favre comes back to them they've iun essence wasted at least one draft pick and slowed down two highly drafted QBs.  Will he do the on/off retirement thing again next year?  I actually believe that the Packers might have taken him back at more than one point during this off-season, but at some time they have to be able to take actions based on a decision from him.  With all this undecided stuff he is really making it hard for them to ploan for the future.  Did they work on stuff built around Aaron Rodgers during OTAs?

Usually I'm all for players asserting their rights, but Favre has put the management in a really rough spot.

I don't care what the Packers have done in the draft. It's clear the Packers don't want Favre back but I do and I know there are others who agree with me. I want to see Brett play on our field with either the Vikings or Green Bay. It just would not be fair to me Favre is one of my favorite quarterbacks of all time.

Pack Bring Favre Back!

I don't know that it is clear that the Packers don't want him back.  He hasn't even said that he definitely wants to play again.  He says he only retired because the Packers were pressuring him to decide before the draft (maybe so they could decide to take two QBs or to hold off on addressing the QB situation) so that it didn't drag on all offseason, like last year.   Maybe they will let him go after the starting job, but he has some offseason work to make up.   I think the Packers would have let him do whatever he wanted in terms of playing or not playing if he would have just told them what he was going to do.  He said he was retiring and now he is saying that he "may" want to play again and is upset that they haven't just said okay you are our starter.  So do they yank Aaron Rodgers chain by saying Brett is the man, only to have Brett possibly say "oops, sorry I really do want to retire?"

The Packers are in a no win situation, where Favre seems to be demanding that they bend to his wishes and won't say exactly what his wishes are.  Should they be trying to sign QB draftees or trying to trade them?

No he does want to play again. He said he does.

In the story that is linked in the Around the League section of jaguars.com ( http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=772402  he is quoted as saying (emphasis is mine):

"'All I was saying is you know I’m thinking about playing again. The ‘itch’ has been used. That is the word that has been used if you want to say itch, or the fire is coming back, or whatever. If I’m going to play it’s going to be 100% commitment. . . .'"

Should the Packers be getting rid of people they drafted this year based on that?

It also says that he hasn't filed for reinstatement yet.  Maybe he does want to play - if so say so.  Before the draft or the at the second point when the Packers ask.  Don't retire, confirm retirement, and then complain that the team isn't saying you automatically come back to the same spot.

The article also says:

"Over the weekend, Thompson said he would gladly accept Favre back on the roster if he applies for reinstatement. Thompson did not say, however, whether the team would bring Favre back as the starter. He did say Rodgers was the starting quarterback."

So, maybe the GM is trying to hedge his bets so that he doesn't end up with no Favre and a shaken, teed off  Aaron Rodgers and a team that doesn't know who the leader is.  Rodgers is going to have a hard enmough time following Favre.

Hello have you not been reading NFL.com and watching NFL Network? The guy has publicly stated that he wants to play again, has filed for reinstatement, and the Packers will not release but want him to be the back up for Rodgers. Favre also just did an interview with FOX Sports he is ready to play for a team again. Favre also said he was guilty of early retirment.

The story linked on the front page of NFL.com that says it was posted 1 hour and 20 minutes ago ( http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8094b0c7&template=with-video&confirm=true  has the same quotes as above.  The story also says:

'Favre said he has thought about the ramifications of playing for another team, moving to another city, and angering some Packers fans.

"You know, the bottom line is, I may not play anywhere," Favre said. "But we have thought of all those things. We have thought about it."'

These are direct quotes from the story on NFL.com quoting Brett Favre, not me interpreting anything.

And then there is this from the story:

'Van Susteren -- who is from Appleton, Wis., is a Packers shareholder and previously had interviewed Favre and his wife, Deanna -- said Favre made it clear he would not return to the Packers if he wasn't the starter. And while Favre said the Packers asked him for a list of teams to which he would accept a trade, he wants to be released to make sure he ends up on a competitive club.'

Now, here is my interpertation - Brett is saying in essence , I may want to play, but I want you to tell me I will be the starter without so much as a pass in OTAs after an offseason in which I didn't work out like I have in past years, before I will file reinstatement papers.  I am going to blast you in the press, while saying "if I come back."   I will make it look like you are holding me back when you have said that you will welcome me back and asked for a list of teams that I would be okay being traded if I don't like your offer.  That just puts the Packers in a no win situation.

Maybe I am blind, but I don't see any stories anywhere that say he has petitioned the league for reinstatement. If he has show me the link to the story.

I'm not arguing with you about this Favre has made his statements and he wants to play. But the Packers do not want him. I think the Packers need to take him back or they need to release him and let the man play the game. He played for the Pack for 16 years and deserves every right to have a chance to play anywhere he wants. No man should have the kind of power over a man they can see what he can and can not do.

I'm done I am over this and Brett Favre will suit up again.

I'll try again: The quotes I have posted are from Favre. He is the one saying "if" and "I may not play anywhere."

Anyway, are you saying you want to see contracts abolished?  The Packers have let him call the shots for the last two years and have said that they will welcome him back or trade him to a team he wants to go to that isn't in direct competition with them.  The only thing that they haven't done is guarantee that, if he wants to come back, he will be the starter.

If they just say okay and release him they lose much value in several ways.  I don't know if they have to take a salary cap hit, but they paid his signing bonus for the contract that he hasn't finished.

Show me a quote from Favre where he says he has said that he is definitely coming back.  He may come back, but by waiting to do until this late date and complaining because others have made plans in his absence is not something that puts him in a good light.  He is playing the Packers (maybe unintentionally) and I, for one, am surprised by it.  I didn't expect this kind of stuff from him.
