Former Arkansas QB Matt Jones Arrested

Former Arkansas quaterback Matt Jones was arrested by Fayetteville Police early Thursday morning and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Jones, 6-5, 220, has a hearing scheduled in Washington County Circuit Court on July 11. The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver was booked at 4:11 a.m. and no bond had been set as of 7:45 a.m.

There's never a good time to get arrested for possession, but the timing seems particularly bad for Jones. His future with the Jaguars has been called into question throughout the offseason because of poor work ethic and the same "laid-back" attitude that drove Arkansas football fans crazy for so long.

Jones had 24 catches for 317 yards and four touchdowns in 2007. His physical tools have helped keep him in the league for three seasons, but his perceived lack of caring has caused problems for him in Jacksonville.

Former Arkansas tight end Jared Hicks was also arrested early Thursday morning. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hicks is scheduled for an August 8 hearing in Fayetteville District Court. His bond was set at $500.

UPDATE:

FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones has been arrested on cocaine charges in Arkansas.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says officers arrested Jones and two other men as they sat in a Toyota 4Runner in an unlit parking lot in a known drug area.

The preliminary arrest report shows an officer saw Jones sitting in the back seat of the car with a white card with a white powdery substance on it, and a credit card in his other hand.

The officer said he opened the door and asked Jones to "put his hands where he could see them."

Authorities say Jones didn't comply right away and hid his left hand. The officer drew his gun and ordered Jones out of the vehicle. Jones got out and the officer put him in handcuffs.

A second officer placed the other two men under arrest. They're identified as Benjamin Cook, 26, and Jared Hicks, 25.

Jones is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Cook and Hicks face misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jones is entering his 4th season with the Jaguars. He was the 21st overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Since making the transition from college quarterback to NFL wide receiver, Jones' career in Jacksonville has mostly been a disappointment.

So much for anyone calling him a stoner being "naive"--bunch of rednecks.

That pretty much confirms what most of us new, Matt Jones smoke the weed.  Could be a reason for his lack of motivation.

If your a fan then stand up and cheer, otherwise go home to your cozy couch.   This is our house baby!

If this isn't timely, then I don't know what to say.

I hope that Jaguars fans do just continue to push on, do our due dilligence, support the team, and if something should happen, deal with it then, until then, all we can do to attempt to keep the team around is continue to be great fans, continue to buy season tickets, continue to go to the games and have a blast, and hope for the best...

Fact is, the rest is out of our control, so, just keep on truckin'...

So was Quinn Gray--gave him delusions of grandeur. He was stoned off his bajeezus when he had to go in for that Indy game.

****, if all I did was get paid big bucks to hold a clipboard...

...

As far as Matt, well, SEE YA!!
