Jagwired'd (6/23/2008) Next year the Jags will probably start drafting for the future since there's no real HONEST glaring holes that I know of.
Expect a QB and maybe a RB
Yep.
RB will probably be the #1 pick. Having a rook fight for backup QB would be a good situation, too and have uswell poised for the future.
We seem to always draft secondary, too - andI don't see that trend broken, either. Another safety is almost a certainty.
i dont see RB being the first pick at all. we have a lot of talented guys after taylor
You're assuming Greg Jones is a halfback. He's not. He's a fullback and will stay there.
MJD is a tremendous asset, but not necessarily as a feature back. The situation we have now with the Fred T/MJD combo is ideal with both guys serving as a 1-2 punch.
That's why you need to add another to replace Fred. What we already have at RB behind him now is fine... for depth alone. But they simply are NOT ready to replace Fred Taylor. No individual or the entire group by committee could replace Fred and compliment MJD the wayFred does.
While I agree with you about MJD needing a guy to take some of the carries, I disagree with you about your assesment about GJ.
They drafted GJ to be the guy who shared carries with Fred and be his eventual replacement. They did not draft him to be a FB. Once GJ tore his ACL, things changed. No that he's getting back to full health, watch out for GJ to be the eventual replacement for Fred.
I honestly believe MJD was drafted to be a KR/PR and get only a few carries/ passes out of the backfield a game. After that Colts game in Indy his rookie year everyone saw his playmaking ability. I know Vic said you don't draft KR's in the 2nd round, and while he's right, the staff had no idea that he would have that kind of impact on the team.
You're right.. the Dolphins spent a first on one.. haha

| | i also disagree on your assesment of greg jones, he's a very capable RB in the mold of stephen jackson, not as great as an all around reciever out the backfield, but in that mold. i also disagree that they didnt think drew could contribute when drafting him... watch his highlights from college, what hes doing in the nfl is no different than how he played in college fellas. i admit, when we drafted him i didnt know much about him besides everyone said he was too small... i watched one highlight of him when we drafted him and said "WOW, what were all the scouts talking about???" one look at this kid and you could see he could do whatever he wanted in the NFL, pure muscle, ran THROUGH safeties, not around them. plus, he was used in short yardage situations too. drew is also less prone to injuries to the knees with his short stature, lower center of gravity, and pure strength. in my opinion, there is no reason he cant take 20 carries a game... ideally no one wants there RB having more than 300 carries per year, so a RB that can come in and spell him and get 5 to 10 carries per game would be nice, but is not a #1 overall draft pick type necessity

TMD's "predictions" so far for 08 season:
-Minnesota and Philly in the NFC championship game with Minnesota in the Superbowl
-Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game
-Houston a top 5 rushing team in the 09 season
-Houston seeded higher in the playoffs than the jags
- jags finishing 9-7 at best
- Browns finish better than the Jags
-Jags finish last in the AFC South after a bad showing in the preseason
TMD and I have a bet for $100 on the Jags wins
-Denver winning the AFC West LOL
-Bengals over Jags 24-21

| i also think that if barnes shows his worth this season with a solid performance, the jags would be more than willing to pay him a decent starting LT salary as that is a PREMIUM position, and you just dont let guys like that walk, especially considering he is actually younger than collier by a year. if barnes plays well this year, and he will be given the opportunity too, he'll be resigned unless his head gets to big... ideally, we want him to play great, but not be recognized and put in the probowl or his salary demands will skyrocket

| Jones-Drew has always had ankle issues his entire football career.. I think he can handle it too.. but I really don't want him to stress his ankle.

| i did not know that about his ankle, but as far as i know, that has not even been an issue at all since joinng the jags. like i said, he is much less likely to get injured with his stature, which is another good thing about him.. i dont know whats better than a short pounder who the defense cant see and can fit through smaller wholes AND is less likely to get injured. he has taken and given some monstrous hits, and i have no fear at all about him not being able to handle a full load, the things is, you probably dont want any RB able or not able taking too many carries... but 18-20 a game for him is not to much. washington could be that guy who comes in for him if its not greg jones as well.. i just really like the thought of jones and jones drew

| Krayz_Jville_D (6/23/2008) very true FBT.. btw, is the uncapped year a certainty now, or is there still a time for them to workout a new deal?Nothing is a certainty, but the team can't manage their cap under any other mindset.
