Next year the Jags will probably start drafting for the future since there's no real HONEST glaring holes that I know of. Expect a QB and maybe a RB Yep. RB will probably be the #1 pick. Having a rook fight for backup QB would be a good situation, too and have us well poised for the future. We seem to always draft secondary, too - and I don't see that trend broken, either. Another safety is almost a certainty.

FBT (6/23/2008) I agree. I think 2009 will be all about focusing on adding interior linemen on both sides of the ball. Rob Meier isn't getting any younger, and neither is Meester. Drafting their replacements in 2009 allows them the opportunity to develop that depth with the expectation that they'll be sliding into the starting role in a year or two.exactly, i would say DT or center in free agency, but that would usually incline they would start right away, and neither position needs an immediate starter next year. i dont see it going any other way than center or DT in rounds 1 and 2 next year.. unless, an elite DT comes available in free agency and they see the need to go after him. WR might still be an option in free agency, but i think this group will provide the young playmakers we've been looking for. RB is a possibility, but if they plan on moving greg to RB eventually, theres no need there for an immediate player thru free agency. Barring injuries, and in anticipation of an uncapped year, I'm betting that the Jags aren't very aggressive at all in free agency. Because the holes are becoming less and less of an issue for the team, and they are in a position to fill most of these through the draft, I think you'll see them sticking to that as their strategy in an effort to keep their cap situation healthy. They spent a lot of money in free agency this off-season (contractually).

| very true FBT.. btw, is the uncapped year a certainty now, or is there still a time for them to workout a new deal?

TMD's "predictions" so far for 08 season:
-Minnesota and Philly in the NFC championship game with Minnesota in the Superbowl
-Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game
-Houston a top 5 rushing team in the 09 season
-Houston seeded higher in the playoffs than the jags
- jags finishing 9-7 at best
- Browns finish better than the Jags
-Jags finish last in the AFC South after a bad showing in the preseason
TMD and I have a bet for $100 on the Jags wins
-Denver winning the AFC West LOL
-Bengals over Jags 24-21

He's a fullback and will stay there. MJD is a tremendous asset, but not necessarily as a feature back. The situation we have now with the Fred T/MJD combo is ideal with both guys serving as a 1-2 punch. That's why you need to add another to replace Fred. What we already have at RB behind him now is fine... for depth alone. But they simply are NOT ready to replace Fred Taylor. No individual or the entire group by committee could replace Fred and compliment MJD the way Fred does.

| | I could see the Jags targeting an OLT to play at least for the first year behind Richard Collier allowing Khalif Barnes to test the Free Agent market. The Jags may not be too keen about paying the going rate for starting OLT's which is over 7 Mil per season. No matter how well Khalif Barnes plays, the Jags may figure they can weather the storm with Richard Collier for at least a year while grooming a rookie to potentially start by his second season. I could see the Jags perhaps trading away their Rd 3 pick in order to move up in the draft and take the guy they want. 2009 will be another pretty good draft class for the OT position. Depending upon how well Troy Williamson and Mike Walker play, I could see the Jags allowing Reggie Williams to perhaps test Free Agency. As a consequence the Jags might take a WR late in the draft. I believe that the Jags will target a Safety early in the 2009 draft. They might allow Gerald Sensabaugh to become an UFA. Lastly, I predict that the Jags will come to terms for a 3 year extension for Mike Peterson, allowing him to retire a Jaguar. |

While I agree with you about MJD needing a guy to take some of the carries, I disagree with you about your assesment about GJ.
They drafted GJ to be the guy who shared carries with Fred and be his eventual replacement. They did not draft him to be a FB. Once GJ tore his ACL, things changed. No that he's getting back to full health, watch out for GJ to be the eventual replacement for Fred.
I honestly believe MJD was drafted to be a KR/PR and get only a few carries/ passes out of the backfield a game. After that Colts game in Indy his rookie year everyone saw his playmaking ability. I know Vic said you don't draft KR's in the 2nd round, and while he's right, the staff had no idea that he would have that kind of impact on the team.
