It seems like just yesterday that the 2008 draft was here, but time flies when you are having fun and with only 307 days until the 2009 draft, it is time to look at the Jags future draft class.

Since it is a wee bit early to determine which Juniors will declare for the 2009 draft they have been omitted from draft consideration for this latest mock draft edition.

Lastly, for the purposes of this mock draft, I am assuming that the Jags will live up to expectations and pick last in each of the 6 rounds in which they have draft choices.

Rd 1(32): Alex Boone - OLT - Ohio State - 6'7" 312 Lbs 5.27/40

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Jags will allow Khalif Barnes to test Free Agency rather than pay him an average of 7 Mil per season. The job will go to Richard Collier with Alex Boone providing his main competition going into training camp.

Rd 2(64): Patrick Chung - SS - Oregon - 5'11" 210 Lbs 4.52/40

The Jags allow Gerald Sensabaugh to also test Free Agency and draft his replacement. Chung had 117 Total Tackles in 2007, with 7.5 TFL and 2 Ints.

Rd 3(96): Bear Pascoe - TE - Fresno State - 6'5" 258 Lbs 4.86/40

Jags upgrade from Richard Angulo and George Wrighster with a physical run blocker who offers a great target in the middle of the field. In 2007, Bear caught 45 passes and scored 4 TDs. Besides, I really like the idea of having a TE named "Bear" on the roster.

Rd 4(128): Marion Brennan - WR - Tulsa - 6'0" 185 lbs 4.38/40

With the development of Mike Walker and Troy Williamson, the Jags decide to allow Reggie Williams also test Free Agency. The Jags add  a big play WR who in 2007 caught 39 passes for 1244 yards and 11 TDs. Of his 39 receptions, 25 went for over 25 yards per catch.

Rd 5(160): DeAngelo Smith - CB - Cincinnati - 5'11" 190 Lbs 4.54/40

Jags take another CB who in 2007 had 7 PD and 5 Ints.

Rd 6(192): Demonte Bolden - DT - Tennessee - 6'5" 292 Lbs 4.98/40

With all the luck the Jags have had with Tennessee DTs, the Jags take another to provide depth.

1) Nic Harris  Safety, Oklahoma           6'3" 226lbs.       4.55/40  -   Lacks the top-end speed to play FS in the NFL, but has very good size and fluidity and covers very well.

2) Phil Loadholt       OT, Oklahoma       6'8" 346lbs.       5.38/40  -  Massive OT that has the feet to play OLT.  Similar to 2008 draftee Jeff Otah.

3) Cornelius Ingram   TE, Florida          6'4" 232lbs.       4.68/40  -  Quick twitch TE / WR hybrid.  Works seam routes well and has good overall hands and athleticism.

4) Rudy Carpenter     QB, ASU             6'2" 220lbs.      4.89/40  -  Young Developmental QB with a real chance to start down the road.  Has the experience and physical tools to start in the NFL.  Previously coached by Koetter.

5) Jason Phillips        LB, TCU              6'1" 235lbs.       4.59/40  -  Smallish, athletic LB with excellent production.  Has 231 career tackles heading into his Senior season.

6) Ryan McDonald       C, Illinois          6'4" 298lbs.        5.2/40  -  Developmental OL with good size and experience.  Will have time to develop behind Meester.

first off, i would think the jags would target DT much earlier in the draft..

also, if reggie breaks out again this year, i dont think the jags would allow their first round pick who is now blossoming to get away... instead they would readily cut northcutt to save that money and then give to reggie with his new contract..

imagine the scrutiny they would recieve if reggie williams finally pans out to his draft status, then they let him walk afterwards LOL.. wont happen..

the jags will be more than willing to pay for a 25 year old WR who is entering his prime, and would have no problem letting the then 31 or 32 year old northcutt go

TMD's "predictions" so far for 08 season:
-Minnesota and Philly in the NFC championship game with Minnesota in the Superbowl
-Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game
-Houston a top 5 rushing team in the 09 season
-Houston seeded higher in the playoffs than the jags
- jags finishing 9-7 at best
- Browns finish better than the Jags
-Jags finish last in the AFC South after a bad showing in the preseason
TMD and I have a bet for $100 on the Jags wins
-Denver winning the AFC West LOL
-Bengals over Jags 24-21

KJD, I don't think that there is any way that the team let's either D. Northcutt or R. Williams walk without finding their replacement first. And I say that not because of how well they play, but rather that they fill a role that no one else on the team does.

Now D'Juan Woods and J. Harvey might be able to take R. Williams spot as the big, physical possession WR, but I think that if R. Williams keeps progressing this season like he has been, there is no way that those two will be able to match his skills set. It's similar to the E. Wilford situation in that the team let him walk away because they feel that R. Williams was essentially the same WR, so Wilford became expendable. Essentially, R. Williams was an installed replacement for E. Wilford.

I really don't see anyone on the roster that has the quickness in and out of his breaks that Northcutt has either.

Again, it's not because they are all that good, just that no one on the roster can do what they do, and until they find replacements, I don't see them going away.

Go heavy early.

well we are on the same page with reggie williams, my point was that they would much rather cut northcutt if that was the only way to resign reggie williams.  either way, reggie williams wont go anywhere unless he bombs this season and stinks... they wont let their 1st round pick walk once he finally reaches what they envisioned.   williamson could fill that northcutt role, but again i see him as being able to be a #1 at some point... but think about it, this past year with northcutt as our #1, we had no little quick guy in the slot when northcutt was outside, so either way, i think we would be OK.

but we both agree, reggie is not going anywhere if he plays good this season, and i highly doubt anyone offers him a big contract anyways

Is Alex Boone gonna be a first rounder?

I think a potential first round pick to look at might be Jeff Owens.  DT from Georgia.  one of the better at his position in college but I dont think he'll go top 15.  especially not when all the juniors like Taylor Mays, Andre Smith, Chris Wells, etc... declare early.

If Sam Baker of USC can be drafted in Rd 1 then Alex Boone can climb to the end of Rd 1 in the 2009 draft. (Remember I am projecting the Jags to select at the end of Rd 1 with the very last pick.) OLT prospects always seem to get overdrafted.

Even if Boone does slide into Round #1, I'd still rather have Loadholt.  Then again, Loadholt may end up in the 1st as well.

I do believe that Phil Loadholt will be drafted ahead of Alex Boone, most likely somewhere between Picks 15 and 25.

Rudy Carpenter is sick. I would love for the jags to get him.

" The Jaguars will tank: Jacksonville has mishandled the quarterback position and both candidates — Byron Leftwich, designated the starter, and David Garrard — are shaky. Daunte Culpepper may be a possibility, but he also ranks as an unknown commodity these days.

That uncertainty, the slow development of receivers and the difficulty finding big plays more than offset a nice backfield combination of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew and a high-ranking defense.

This will be Coach Jack Del Rio's last season in Jacksonville "
