I would say that Clayton learned very little from camp, including his right from his left, given who he says is fighting for what spot on the Oline.

However, if you read the clots right up, all the unknowns are A-OK.

Freeney's Lis Franc--not a problem, he'll miss camp but will be ready to go.

Sander's shoulder surgeries--not a problem, he'll be ready to go.

He's a funny, funny little man.

Why would the Jags sign Mo. Williams to a 4 year 16 Mil dollar deal (Avg. 4 Mil/Season) if they were not going to start him?

So, you're saying there's really no competition so let's just pencil him in?

That expectation may have factored into their decision, but also he provides depth at T you can't find just anywhere - which adds to his value.  He could have gone for a starting job at RT somewhere else, so that sets his market price higher even if it's re-signing with the Jags.

This club has spent a lot of money on guys who haven't won starting roles, so don't think the checkbook necessarily dictates future performance.

If there is real competition and he does lose out to someone like Nwaneri, then I can't understand why fans can't see this as a good thing.  It means the starter, and the depth, are both better than they were the previous year.

In responding to you, let me offer this from ProFootballWeekly.com...

Jaguars playing mind games, coaxing the best out of OG Williams

Three days after cutting OG Chris Naeole — the Jaguars’ best offensive lineman, whose health was in question after blowing out his knee in midseason of 2007 — the Jaguars re-signed Maurice Williams to a four-year, $16 million deal in March. So the fact that Williams finds himself in the thick of a battle for the starting OLG job with lightly regarded Uche Nwaneri and Dennis Norman is a curious development in Jacksonville’s minicamp. A converted offensive tackle who finally started to tap into his potential after shifting inside when Naeole went down, Williams was expected to form a potent complement to OG Vince Manuwai, who has flipped over to the right side. The way we hear it, Williams’ hold on the starting job isn’t as tenuous as it looks on the practice field. Rather, it’s a ploy the coaches are taking to motivate him to continue his strong play after signing his lucrative deal. Williams’ effort has been called into question, and the hope is that staging a competition will convince him to live up to the terms of his deal. Only $4 million of Williams' $16 million contract is guaranteed.

I am sure it hurt Clayton to say anything positive about the Jaguars.  On a side note, doesn't Clayton look like a pedifile?

Zippy Clayton said our right guard position was a three-way battle. I thought Manuwai was moving from left to right guard and it was the left guard position that's up for grabs between Nwaneri and M. Williams?

It's coming from ESPN so you know there had to be SOMETHING inaccurate.

He got it wrong. So where is all the hell-fire and commotion? When Vito did the same thing everyone was all over his case. But now we see Clayton making the same error in reporting and I'm not hearing a peep. He should be raked over the coals.

Well, he does carry a premium since he can also play OT. Frankly I think the plan is to start him, but they're not going to let his contract determine the position. If Nwaneri can come in and physically play better, he'll start. If that happens I'm expecting Williams to be the primary backup at most OL positions. They're also not about to cut him regardless because his base salary this year is already guaranteed.

really, williams was not an improvement??? ok kind sir, why dont you go look up fred taylor's rushing numbers once maurice williams entered in for naole... tell me wether they dramatically went up, or down... if williams did not play just as good or better, they would not have cut naole... and if the line is going to struggle putting new players in, WHICH IT WILL, then there is no reason to do so, WHICH IS WHY they wont.

Uh... wouldn't putting in a new starter be exactly the same as what you're claiming improved things last year when Naeole went down due to injury?

You're contradicting yourself.  Plus, Mo hasn't played LG.  LG is where the hole is now that Manuai is moving over to RG from LG.  Again, If Mo were sufficient Manuai would have stayed put at LG.

Naeole was cut because his injury has more than likely ended his career.  Not because Williams outplayed him.  Otherwise, Williams would have won the job in the offseason.  But there's the hypocrisy again.  You don't believe a backup like Nwaneri or Collier can play as well as (or even outplay) a starter.  Except in the context of the Naeole/Williams debate as long as that backup is named Williams.  Got it.

LMAO at the KRaZy logic.

Like you mentioned, Perk, I think the whole key is Manuwai moving to RG, where Williams played well last year.  I don't know how much difference there is, but maybe Williams is not suited to LG as well as he is to RG.  I believe I read that Nwaneri is a natural LG and played there in college, so that is why he is getting a long look with the #1's.

I commented on Clayton.

And I think it was Micheal Wright, not Vito the horrific.

ya, cuz everyone can disagree with the 2nd best rushing team needing to change its line all up... LOL at your logic

Rashean the I-N-T Machine Mathis- best CB in the game
TMD's "predictions" so far for 08 season:
-Minnesota and Philly in the NFC championship game with Minnesota in the Superbowl
-Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game
-Houston a top 5 rushing team in the 09 season
-Houston seeded higher in the playoffs than the jags
- jags finishing 9-7 at best
- Browns finish better than the Jags
-Jags finish last in the AFC South after a bad showing in the preseason
TMD and I have a bet for $100 on the Jags wins
-Denver winning the AFC West LOL
-Bengals over Jags 24-21
