Williams was certainly NOT an improvement over Naeole. If you mean an improvement over the injured Naeole that couldn't phsically play, then I agree.

| Zippy Clayton said our right guard position was a three-way battle. I thought Manuwai was moving from left to right guard and it was the left guard position that's up for grabs between Nwaneri and M. Williams?
It's coming from ESPN so you know there had to be SOMETHING inaccurate.

| | Funny how his concern was with the O-line and not the D-line, especially since we're in the same division as Vince Young. |

| Why would the blocking on the offensive line not be as good as last year? It's the SAME PLAYERS. Memo to Clayton: Naole was on IR last year.

| really, williams was not an improvement??? ok kind sir, why dont you go look up fred taylor's rushing numbers once maurice williams entered in for naole... tell me wether they dramatically went up, or down... if williams did not play just as good or better, they would not have cut naole... and if the line is going to struggle putting new players in, WHICH IT WILL, then there is no reason to do so, WHICH IS WHY they wont.

You're contradicting yourself. Plus, Mo hasn't played LG. LG is where the hole is now that Manuai is moving over to RG from LG. Again, If Mo were sufficient Manuai would have stayed put at LG. Naeole was cut because his injury has more than likely ended his career. Not because Williams outplayed him. Otherwise, Williams would have won the job in the offseason. But there's the hypocrisy again. You don't believe a backup like Nwaneri or Collier can play as well as (or even outplay) a starter. Except in the context of the Naeole/Williams debate as long as that backup is named Williams. Got it.

| | Why would the Jags sign Mo. Williams to a 4 year 16 Mil dollar deal (Avg. 4 Mil/Season) if they were not going to start him? |

| Stigma (6/20/2008) Why would the Jags sign Mo. Williams to a 4 year 16 Mil dollar deal (Avg. 4 Mil/Season) if they were not going to start him?So, you're saying there's really no competition so let's just pencil him in? That expectation may have factored into their decision, but also he provides depth at T you can't find just anywhere - which adds to his value. He could have gone for a starting job at RT somewhere else, so that sets his market price higher even if it's re-signing with the Jags. This club has spent a lot of money on guys who haven't won starting roles, so don't think the checkbook necessarily dictates future performance. If there is real competition and he does lose out to someone like Nwaneri, then I can't understand why fans can't see this as a good thing. It means the starter, and the depth, are both better than they were the previous year.
