| | Matt Roth DE Iowa | | Strengths Matt has good size, speed and athletic talent for his position. He has a good burst off the line of scrimmage and uses good technique to free himself for sacks against his opponent. He makes offensive coaches account for him on every play in their game plans. Matt plays every play and every down with the same passion that you and I have for the game. It is a passion born from competition and wanting to be the best. Needs to ImproveMatt needs to learn how to be stronger at the point of attack. I have no doubt that he will. Talent Board Round 1Matt is just going to be a core player and a fan favorite for the team that drafts him. He can be used in a 4-3 scheme or a 3-4 scheme. He can rush the passer or fall off the line of scrimmage to allow others to rush. Matt has some linebacker skills to go along with his DE skills. I think some teams that should be drooling to get Matt should be the Patriots, the Steelers and the Dolphins, among many others. Matt is relentless and seems like he plays a little out of control, but the scouts that say that are playing games with you. I call him Matt ‘Psycho’ Roth because everybody says this kid is a little nuts. I think he is just smart enough to let you think that about him. | |

| rfc17 (5/21/2008) seems like a lot of unnecessary drama for us. frankly id rather just pay spicer more money(which would still be less than what Taylor makes).
im in that same boat, i think the reason the jags arent so quick to pay spicer alot is because they are waiting to see what happens with taylor, i think if taylor gets released they will sign him and let paul play his contract out

In case anyone needs a clue.
Pick a number between 1 and 100, Add 52, Now subtract 7, Add 4, Subtract 13, Subtract the number you started with, Divide by 2, Add 7, Multiply by 4 then subtract 9 ... Viola there's your clue.

| Stigma (5/21/2008) more about Matt Roth...Roth’s days as a Dolphin are numberedMonday, May 12, 2008 | Posted by Hugo Guzman

Defensive end Matt Roth will probably be a good fit in a situational role for some NFL defense. It just won't be with the Miami Dolphins.
Since arriving in South Florida via Nick Saban’s 2005 draft, the short-armed bull rusher has struggled to find his niche in the Dolphins’ defensive front. The former Iowa standout has had limited success in pass-rushing situations, tallying just 7.5 sacks in three seasons. Roth’s career high of 3.5 sacks came in 2006, and when coupled with three forced fumbles, it represents by far the most productive campaign of his career.
Unfortunately, that’s just not enough for a starting-caliber defensive end, especially when you consider that his run-stopping abilities are far from legendary. The former second-round pick has just two tackles for a loss in three seasons and hasn't been an immovable object on running plays.
However, Roth's underachieving against the run is not the main reason why he will be handed his walking papers sooner than later.
Roth’s biggest impediment to success will be Miami’s not-so-gradual shift to a true 3-4 alignment, and whether that transition is complete in 2008 or thereafter is of no real consequence. After all, the Bill Parcells regime has no allegiance to Roth, and there’s really no room for a player who's too small to play end in a 3-4 but lacks the athleticism to play linebacker in that same alignment.
Parcells has made no secret of his desire to bring in big bodies, especially at the point of attack, so it’s unrealistic to think that Roth -- who weighs in at roughly 275 pounds -- will be able to bulk up enough to play a 3-4 end position that is often occupied by guys approaching the 300-pound mark.
As for his linebacking prospects, Roth was considered to be a relatively unathletic defensive end, so there’s really no chance of him moving to a position that would require him to shadow running backs and tight ends in the open field.
Roth will likely land on his feet quickly, because he has shown signs of developing into a steady power rusher and run stopper; and at age 25, he still has plenty of time to develop his repertoire.
It’s just that said development won’t occur in a Dolphins uniform. |

| | Jason Taylor for Spicer, Hawkins, and a 2009 4th... Parcells is stubbornly demanding a 1st round draft selection if he parts with Taylor. Spicer is likely worth a 4th round selection in the market if traded; Hawkins is likely worth a 6th or 7th round selection. So, your offer is equivalent to about two 4ths and a 6th. Unfortunately, the offer would be significantly short of Parcell's demand. He might do it if he values Spicer and Hawkins, and the 4th round pick was sweetened to likely a 2nd round selection. |

I'm not so sure Parcells wouldn't take less for Taylor now. That first round demand was during the draft, but it should be less now. To me there are a couple of problems with Taylor coming here. First, Parcells knows that any draft pick the Jags give Miami for Taylor would be at the very end of the round. Parcells may not go for a very late 2nd round pick. The main problem with Taylor coming here would be that I don't think he really wants to be in Jacksonville. I have heard Baltimore and San Diego is where he is likely headed. Jacksonville is not a big enough market for his big ego it seems.

| | Could Jason Taylor end up being a Saint? Jason Taylor will be subject to an $8,638 fine for each day of mandatory minicamps he misses, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.
The fines escalate to $15,116 daily in training camp. Taylor has $7.5 million in salary to work with. Schefter says Miami may opt to avoid the situation altogether and names five teams that have shown interest; the Saints, who have $25.8 million in free cap space, Eagles, Bucs, Cowboys, and Chargers. He calls Dallas the "most intriguing" landing spot, but a longshot. |
