Jagwired'd is to moderators as a wrongfully accused killer is to the court of law.

I show off my anger after Jags losses. I can't help myself.

What does it matter....every uneducated person about the draft says Houston reached for Duane Brown, yet....http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d8081175f yep what a reach....it was such a reach another NFL team was ready to grab him in the next pick (San Diego)

Really in the end of the day the only way both these teams are going to be let off the hook is if these players pan out.

In my opinion, When the need is bad enough, There's no such thing as a reach.

In the Texans' case they have Paperbag Salaam starting so Duane Brown was an excellent pick.

Here is what Adam Schein had to say about the Texans...

9. Houston won eight games a year ago. The Texans were a team to watch this offseason to see if they could get over the hump and make a true push in perhaps the toughest division in the NFL.

I really think, though, the Texans missed the boat this offseason.

The Texans needed another shut down cornerback to go along with Dunta Robinson, who is coming off of a major injury. If Jacques Reeves is the answer, I'd love to know the question. Houston paid way too much for a cornerback who got burnt more in Dallas than a bad piece of toast.

Houston needed a running back. Chris Brown doesn't exactly excite me.

And I have no idea what Houston was thinking in the first round. The Texans traded down and didn't select Mike Jenkins, who would've been perfect at corner. They needed a left tackle, and they grossly reached second-round talent Duane Brown in Round 1.

While I think they stole Steve Slaton and Xavier Abibi on Day 2 of the draft, this was not what you were looking for from Houston at all.

Reminder ...

The Schein-box (video-style) returns this week with a slew of reader e-mails, so keep sending them in!

It was Adam Caplan who wrote this...

AFC

Buffalo Bills

THOMAS WASN'T REALLY THEIR MAN: It was widely believed that the team was going to select WR Devin Thomas with their first-round pick had CB Leodis McKelvin not dropped to them. A league source notes that Buffalo actually would have taken a defensive end (likely Derrick Harvey had the Jacksonville Jaguars not traded up for him) over Thomas.

This thread is about Jacksonville Jaguar Derrick Harvey, not Houston Texan Duane Brown...go whine about the never-winning Texans somewhere else.

Had I started in 2003, This team would have seen a SB by now.

Starting from right now, with the team in it's current state, I could have this team in a SB within 2 years/ seasons.

The need was very huge. Let's not forget that ESPN had Derrick Harvey in the top 15 picks BEFORE the combine and AFTER the combine he moved into the top 10. What these s up north can't get is what we gave up to get him.

Kiper and McGay will never admit this because ratings were at stake, but this draft was very very thin.

The interesting thing about the draft, and something that I have rarely if ever heard the experts talk about, is that value isn't found on draft day.  Value is an idea based on collegiate performance, combine numbers and senior bowl games (I am stating the obvious I know.)  Of those only the senior bowl games really can give you a clearer picture because the competition is closer to NFL caliber.  With the multitude of variables that come with playing in the NFL any discussion of value is really just for the fans and serves to pass the time.  A players value is defined by his NFL production and it is so refreshing to see recent articles referring to draft evaluation 3+ years down the road.  This methodology allows for a more reasonable approach to first round draft picks: that being a year one "breakout" is not expected.

In fairness to the experts they note it is only their opinion based on their research.  Something The Mad Dog has pointed out on countless threads is that when an expert says nice things hes smart, when he grades your team a C- he is less than intelligent.  The same can be said for a teams front office.  If they draft the guy you liked they are dead on, when they pick someone else they should be fired.  I like the unknown.  I like looking at the glass half full with the draft pick (though I'm still little bent the Jags didn't grab D. Ryans).  When the players first contract is up I'll judge the draft.  If it takes 5 years to develop Harvey and in year 5 he leads this team in sacks and the Jags win a Super Bowl then I'd say he was a solid pick.

The downside is that we'd have to listen to 4 years of "I told you he was a bust".

The world of the happy is quite different from the world of the unhappy.

Actually the thread was about people who don't know what the hell they're talking about and just automatically call players a reach (even though they're not) I was just letting the thread starter know, I know where he's coming from.....that's all.

and the only person that is "whining" in here is you..........I have no reason to whine, Capers and Casserely are gone and everything is on the up and up in H town.

Clearly this thread should be about how AWFUL the Texans CONTINUE to BE and WILL BE for the forseeable future due in large part to the incompetence of their Front Office.

When will the Texans vacate the cellar of the AFC South Division?

Probably NOT in the 2008 season.

Everybody knows what runs downhill and at the bottom of the hill it accumulutes and STINKS to high heaven!

That sums up the status of the Texans Franchise!
