Psychop1 (5/16/2008)
40 (5/16/2008) When the "all he does is win games" mantra was found to be wanting those who follow the NFL found that VY was lacking the skills to be a real threat at QB. VY has yet to play anywhere near an average game against Jacksonville though I recall reading where one titan fan noted that if given time VY would eventually be successful against the Jags.
It isn't a question of "sour grapes". VY had a horrible passer rating but showed up when needed to assist in winning games for the titans. That isn't denied. However, past OROY were based on performance and stats, of which VY only had 1 covered. He was a media darling and since the voting is media based it isn't a shock he won. Those same media pundits arenow realizing that VY is going on year 3 and has shown limited if any improvement. VY or DG...that is an easy choice. I'll take the guy who is actually a QB. The guy who can throw and scramble. That leaves out VY.The same guy you geniuses were referring to as "Captain Turnover"??? Addai would also have to be the runner up to Young in ROY. He actually broke 1,000 yards on the ground, and helped his team to a Superbowl. Young on the other hand, broke rookie records, played in the pro bowl... that was pretty much a no brainer. I can't believe some mental midgets still have sour grapes over that. RE: Captain Turnover That is a very weak retort. Yes DG did perform horribly at the end of the 2006 season. He was a turnover machine. However, DG improved in 2007 which is more than I can say for VY. If you are serious about holding the position that VY is better than DG at this point then it is fair to say your bias is clouding your judgment. RE: Pro Bowl He backed into the Pro Bowl. Mike Vick was voted to the Pro Bowl. Fan vote is not always for the best player but rather the player the fans want to see. Another weak component to your argument. RE: Rookie Records I will list the stats for MJD: He finished 3rd in the NFL in both kickoff returns (27.7 yd avg) and touchdowns scored (16). He was also one of only two players in the NFL to score at least one TD rushing, receiving, and returning kicks (Reggie Bush was the other). He also led all AFC running backs in scrimmage yards per touch. Narrowly missing 1,000 yards for the season, Jones-Drew's rushing average of 5.7 yds per carry was 1st in the NFL for backs with 100 attempts and was the highest for an NFL running back since Barry Sanders averaged 6.1 yds per rush in 1997. In addition, he had the third-most all-purpose yards of any rookie in history. He was nominated five different times for NFL Rookie of the Week in 2006. (Wikipedia) Congrats to VY for the QB rushing record. Also, kudos on the 30th best passer rating. RE: Mental Midgets The name calling proves what? Based on your inability to reply with an argument that has any semblance of a foundation I'd say your juvenile insult is misplaced. RE: Sour Grapes I have no problem admitting to sour grapes, to use your term. What I find comical is to watch titan fan attempt to bail out the sinking ship that is VY. His award was a media driven one. Looking back at the OROY winners you will find some who came from losing teams (Anquan Boldin, Jerome Bettis). I.E. your winning team argument fails. What doesn't fail is the argument of statistics. VY won OROY as a QB w\the 30th best QB stat. I'm sure no other QB who has won the OROY award had such a horrible stat as his position ranking. More INTS than TD passes. Oh he had some nice wins but when the media accounts for the win against Jax as a win for VY...please. I'm not going to get into a name calling competition with you because I'm better than that...I'd like to think you are as well. The evidence speaks for itself. "Captain Turnover" isn't just a weak retort, it's the truth. With all their genius, the majority of Jaguar fans were all too willing to put all their stock into Life Support Leftwich, and ignored Garrard's natural ability because of a few bad games. I knew he had ability, and made it known, as did part of your fan base that was consistently ridiculed for it. It's certain revealing in how the majority of Jaguar fans judge QB talent. Now you've seen it happen. You've seen the turn around, and you want everyone else to believe that you still don't get it. While you're dissing Young, it simply lets me and other Titan fans know that he will more likely go on to greatness. If he's had two years in the league, and you all are crying this much, hell, he might even be hall of fame material some day. As for MJD, he did well returning the ball, and excelled in his role as the number two RB. First thing, if it were about special teams play, Devin Hester would have taken ROY that year, not MJD. It's not even close. When it came down to rushing yards and helping his team win games, he can't beat out Addai either, who was the only rookie RB to break 1,000 yards on the ground that season, and helped his team to the Superbowl. As for Young... By the time the 2006 season ended, the 6-foot-5, 233-pound signal caller was the owner of virtually every rookie passing record for the franchise, including passing totals of 2,199 yards and 12 touchdowns. Additionally, he gained 552 yards on the ground, becoming the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era (1966-present) to rush for 500 yards as a rookie. He scored seven rushing touchdowns, also a first for a rookie quarterback in the Super Bowl era. Young became the first rookie in league history to record three touchdown passes of 20 yards or longer (Young totaled five) and three rushing touchdowns of 20 yards or longer (Young totaled four). After playing as a back-up in two of Tennessee’s first three games of 2006, Young emerged as a starter in Week 4 (10/1) and started the remainder of the season. His eight wins marked the fifth-highest total by a rookie quarterback since 1970 NFL-AFL merger, and he directed a six-game winning streak that was the third-longest by a rookie quarterback since the merger. Since 1960, 57 rookie quarterbacks have started more than half of their team’s games, and Young is only the 10th member of that group to have a winning record. Young directed six fourth-quarter comebacks in his time at Texas, including his signature Rose Bowl performance against the University of Southern California in the BCS Championship Game, and as a rookie he provided evidence to suggest his flair for the dramatic and ability to perform under duress carried through from college to the NFL. He led the Titans to five victories in which the Titans trailed or were tied in the fourth quarter. In consecutive weeks, the team erased significant deficits against the New York Giants (11/26) and Indianapolis Colts (12/3) to win the game. Against the Giants, they trailed 21-0 in the fourth quarter before coming back to win 24-21. The Colts jumped out to a 14-0 lead and a 14-10 fourth-quarter lead only to be defeated at the hands of Young and the Titans by a final score of 20-17. The comeback in the Giants game was the greatest in league history by a rookie quarterback, and in those two weeks Young became the first quarterback in league history to achieve two comebacks of 14 points or more in his rookie season. The following week at Houston (12/10), he won the game in overtime with a 39-yard touchdown run. A media driven award that you all obviously covet bad enough to still be crying about it two years later.

TheSpacePope (5/16/2008) He's still going to suck at the NFL level.Always has, always will. Ah, another i.d.i.o.t.! How has he proven himself as a QB that can play at the NFL level? R.O.Y.! For being the media darling, definitley not because of his play. Even a Tack can admit who was the best Offensive rookie that year. Simply not true. He broke some records as a rookie, and took a team that should have been 2-14 to 8-8 after he became the starter. He was also a pro bowl alternate and became the first rookie QB to play in the pro bowl. He took the team? Are you kidding. The defense that year kept you in all those games. They simply did not let him lose it for them. Why does he get all the credit?? He was a pro bowler, and ROY based on the media, pure and simple. You take MoJo's numbers that year rushing, receiving, and on returns and compare those to Young's and the race isn't even close. That is just how it is. Fans, coaches, and players vote for the pro bowl. Media has nothing to do with it. He was an alternate anyway. He just happened to play in the pro bowl, which I'm sure had an impact on him becoming ROY as well as his complete body of work. They were probably thinking "Vince Young has rushing yards comparable to MJD's, and he got them from the QB position. How can I give ROY, or even OROY for that matter, to MJD???" So Wonderlic 6 being the media darling and his adoring fans at ESPN taking every opportunity to puff him up had nothing to do with the perception of those who voted but had no idea what he had actually done. Barbra Streisand. Further Proof that tack trolls are delusional. Fan voting accounts for one third of the process. Also, stating media as the direct result Young was a pro bowl alternate because they are influential is pathetic, and quite revealing to your desperation. That is the world we live in today. Do you have blinders on? There is a reason why colleges send out elaborate DVD's to all media outlets to garner votes. There is a reason sides of buildings are plastered with college players, to garner votes. If you don't see that you have your head in a hole. Coaches and players still get the final say. You're simply implicating that fans at large aren't intelligent enough to make good decisions with their vote, most likely because it doesn't corroborate with your biased opinion. Take a look at what is siad by players around the league when it comes to voting time for the Pro Bowl. They always talk about how they have no clue as to who to vote for as they have not even seen everyone play. They have their own films to watch and seasons to worry about. The whole Pro Bowl is a joke anyhow. The ROY in my opinion is a much bigger deal, but still very media driven (as is everything in the country, fault of no one but ourselves)

wonder if he'll break into a double digit passer rating this year.Last year opposing defenses knew our receivers were struggling and didn't worry about them so they were not going to let VY run. But, now with Chris Johnson, a healthy Lendale, Crumpler, and Hawk , they can't just contain VY, a lot more weapons now. It was not your WRs that were struggling, it was VY. Why do you think that the FO went and got a TE and RB? They know that better recievers will not help an inaccurate passer. They went out and got dump off personnel so that when VY can not run, he can dump the ball off to Johnson or Crumpler. The coaching staff does not trust VY to win games with his arm, so they are trying to work around his inability to throw the ball. If you think that our WR's were even adequate, I have to agree. What are you smoking??? The Titans picked up the players they did like most teams, to upgrade their roster. The Titans likely have a lot of faith in Heimerdinger to fix the passing game. Two seasons of Heimerdinger calling the shots, and this offense will likely be pretty dangerous. Ask Rod Smith, Steve McNair, Billy Volek (who point blank told Chow,"Your offense sucks"), Derrick Mason, and Justin McCareins (who the Titans have reacquired) about that. Heimerdinger will not be able to fix the passing game, because the problem is not plays or coaching. You know this and I know this. I know that because the titans are your team that you have to stay optimistic, but you do not have to be irrational. Everyone knows that VY will be a bust. |
