Matt Jones will never be a slot receiver because:

1. He runs sloppy routes.

2. He is scard to get hit.

3. He is too tall.

Face it, Northcutt does a great job at being our slot receiver.

On another note, I wouldnt mind us signing Chris Henry, but because JDR is against off-field issues I don't think it will ever happen.

 Thank god for an offense!

Record: 3-3

Think of Matt Jones as a pass catching TE that lines up a little off the OT. As a TE, he really does not need to run very precise routes. All he has to do is cut in front of the LBers or split the LBers.

Matt Jones has excelled at this since he has been here.

Personally I just don't get all the HATE for a Jaguar player. Did this guy hurt you or are you just comfortable showing the world that you are FULL OF HATE?

Small people are those that HATE because they are usually too STOOPID to do otherwise.

Am I mistaken or am I correct in the fact that slot receivers have to be quick, run tight routes, and take a hit up the middle?  Those are all things Matt Jones cannot do.  As for throwing the ball high, well, when you are 6'6 and part of your appeal is having height and some insane leaping ability, I think throwing high should equate to some major catches.

Matt Jones is fast just not quick. He is faster than most TEs and what kind of routes do most TEs usually run? Matt Jones can run away from most nickle CBs and almost all LBers. This creates mismatches and mismatches are what create big plays. Matt Jones made 4 of the top 10 big plays for the Jags last season and he was barely used.

Matt Jones thrived in the slot when Byron threw the ball to him during his rookie season. I see no reason why he can't thrive again in the slot position.

Matt Jones just might turn his career around. If he does would it not be nice if the Jags were the team that was the team that benefitted from his turn around?

Both JDR and Shack know how talented Matt Jones is. He is has demonstrated much more raw talent than David Garrard ever did prior to last season. So why not root for Matt Jones rather than hope he continues to fail? How can the Jags profit from Matt Jones failing?

Why would any Jag FAN hope that a Jag would fail? That would be just STOOPID!

Nobody is saying Matt Jones sucks, we are saying he is not a good fit for the slot.  You are off on this one, Stigma.  Look at the game where Matt Jones had the most success last year against Oakland Houston.  He lined up outside and out jumped the CB's and caught balls over his outside shoulder.  No matter how much you say it, Matt Jones is not going to be a slot WR.  He can do better outside.

It seems like you are getting confused on what a slot WR is supposed to do.  Get TE out of your mind.  Think about what Wes Welker does and they type of quick outs and slants he runs.  Now tell me if Matt Jones could do that.  No way.  It seems like you are trying to invent a new inside/TE/WR hybrid position for Matt Jones and calling it "slot".

I take great comfort when we disagree in this matter for I feel that more often than not you are in error in most everything you proffer up on this board.

Garbage time TDs against the Raiders or other blowouts don't mean a thing.

Ask him to do it in meaningful games... He did it in one, at most.

oh so his 9 receptions for 142 yards and 1 TD in two playoff games means nothing?

Believe me, my feelings about you are mutual.  Tell us again how the Jags are going to trade down into round 2 and pick up all those extra draft picks again.

Which WR are you talking about?  I think he was talking about Matt Jones.
