This is a very early 2009 - 7 Rd mock draft. Assume that the Jags are coming off a Super Bowl - World Championship,  where the Jags select last in each of the first 6 rounds. The Jags traded their 7th Rd pick to Tampa.

Here is the draft. Which players do you choose if they draft falls out like this mock draft.

7-Round Mock Draft

By: Chris Horwedel

5/9/08

*The order for this mock draft was determined by simulating ahead in Madden 2008 for XBox 360, so if you feel the need to complain about the placement of your team, please do so to John Madden.  Also the 2009 (and all future mock drafts) should not be looked upon as a follow-up to the 2008 Mock Draft.  They should all be viewed independently as we're simply trying to fill holes with players who's draft stock is around that particular level.

Here are my draft choices for the Jags.

Rd 1(32): Greg Hardy - DE - Mississippi - 6'5" 255 Lbs 4.73/40

10 sack Sophomore season. Has the frame to grow into a 270 Lbs LDE.

Rd 2(64): Jonathan Luigs - C - Arkansas - 6'4" 305 Lbs 5.36/40

2008 Rimmington Winner - great run blocking Center, who excels in pass protection schemes.

Rd 3(96): Michael Hamlin - SS - Clemson - 6'3" 205 Lbs 4.54/40

Jags take their future SS. 4 Ints and 2 Fumble Recoveries in 2008.

Rd 4(128): Antwain Robinson - DE - Arkansas - 6'3" 255 Lbs 4.74/40

The Jags take another SEC DE, who garnered 8.5 sacks in 2008.

Rd 5(160): Darryl Richard - DT - Ga. Tech - 6'4" 290 Lbs 4.97/40

11.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks in 2008

Rd 6(192): Dannell Ellerbe - OLB - Georgia - 6'1" 234 Lbs 4.58/40

Very active LB that can play all three LB spots.

this mock needs work... but its early... anyways i like some of our picks.  id take...

1. Macho Harris - CB - VaTech.  I think this guy is really good.  in your face corner.  aggressive.  and is a ballhawk.  we get the corner we thought we may get the last two years.

2. Jeff Owens - DT - Georgia.  big time recruit.  started playing like it.

3. Jonathan Luigs - C - Arkansas.  already mentioned.  great value in the 3rd.

4. Shawn Nelson - TE - Southern Miss.  WR in a TE's body.  would be more highly thought of if Southern Miss had a QB.  big and fast.

5. Alphonso Smith - CB - Wake Forest.  im surprised this guy isnt listed higher in this mock.  anyone who has watched some Wake games can attest, this guy is a playmaker!  id be STUNNED if he fell in the real draft as far as he did here.  unless he runs a slow 40, i think he is top 3 rounds easy.

6. Tyrone McKenzie - LB - South Florida.  how in the world is this guy not even listed in the mock?  unless he runs an abnormally low 40 like Ali Highsmith did this past year, McKenzie will easily be in the top 3 rounds.

Stigma, do you write these reports?

I'm not asking that to insult you at all.  I'm just curious.

I think Smith is pretty short if memory serves me (under 6 foot).  This might have something to do with his dip.  That being said, Smith is definitely a player and I watched him abuse the Noles pretty badly the past two years.

Edit: He's 5'9, I don't think that bodes well for an NFL cornerback.

thatll definitely hurt his stock but i doubt he falls this far unless he runs a slow 40.  lito sheppard went 1st round at 5-10.   DeAngelo Hall was barely 5-10 and was a top 10 pick.  pacman jones was 5-9 and he was a top 10 pick.  Tye Hill was 5-9 and a 1st rounder.

i think a good comparison with Smith is our own draft pick Trae Williams.  if Williams had run a better 40, he would have gone top 3 rounds.  before all the postseason bowl games and workouts, Williams was considered a 2nd round and maybe 3rd.  he measured short and then ran a bad 40 time for a CB.

Wow, Stigma.  You can predict how many sacks these guys have in 2008 already?  You are good.

I admit I don't know enough about next year's prospects to even attempt an intelligent mock.  However, even I know Matt Stafford should be where Tim Tebow is listed as the 2nd overall pick on that guys mock draft (not Stigma's).  Tebow most likely won't come out next year, and even if he did Stafford, who is more likely to go Pro, will be ranked higher.

You may be right, but he seemed even shorter than what was listed.  We all know how colleges love to inflate stats of their players.  That being said, he does have a god vertical and really gets up after the ball.  To be honest, I didn't realize all those players you listed are about my size.  Maybe I'll try out.
