So i guess next year when we are trying to figure out who the team is interested in, I guess whether the Jags talk to that player or not doesnt matter quite as much...

04/26/08 - Auburn defensive end Quentin Groves never worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars and hardly even talked with the team on the phone. If he was ranking a list of NFL teams based on interest, the Jags might have been near the bottom. So he didn't try to hide his surprise when Jacksonville selected him with the 52nd overall pick. Here's how his first conversation went: "When Jacksonville called me, they said, 'OK, Quentin, are you going to be able to participate in our mini-camp?' I said, 'In order to participate, I've got to be drafted first.' He said, 'Congratulations. You're a Jaguar.'" The big news: The Jags want Groves to be a defensive end, not an outside linebacker. Many prognosticators (including Groves himself) expected Groves to end up with a team that runs a 3-4 defense. That apparently won't be the case. Groves was one of two Auburn players picked on the first day of the draft. Defensive back Patrick Lee was taken by the Green Bay Packers with the 60th overall pick. - Evan Woodbery, Press-Register

Jacksonville rarely speaks to the guys that they are interested in. Every year I read about how they are looking very hard at this guy or that guy, and they were seen speaking to such-and-such player during Senior Bowl Practice, and it has never worked out that way.

Jags were targeting an "every downs" end with the first pick.  I don't believe they had dreamed that Groves would be within reach of their second pick.

I couldn't agree more ATL. Kudos for the team to take advantage of a falling player before he got snapped up by someone else.

I both cases (Harvey and Groves), we moved up to exactly where we HAD to...and no higher.  We had to get ahead of Cincy for Harvey and Pitts for Groves.  Very good job targeting talent and getting them by the FO.

Now, it's a matter of proper talent evaluation.

He was going to go #53. I bet Pitts' staff and fans had a few choice words when they saw us hop up.

I just consider it payback for the Matt Spaeth move last year.

I think we base our picks of some good mock draft websites
