| | I can understand thinking Harvey may have been a reach. I thought he was gonna be in the mid-teens. so getting him at 8 may have been a tad high. but we'll never know exactly how far he would have fell. im sure if the pats had stayed at 7 and took him no one would have said its a reach... but the thing Mel said that surprised me is that we gave up too much to get him. say what you want about Harvey, but the trade itself was a good one. we didnt give up nearly as much as we should have to move into the 8th spot. what we gave up should have moved us to like 14 or 15 max.

| | This is the same guy that had the Jags picking Jason Jones with Pick 26. That in itself speaks volumes of his incompetence! |

| Its probably true that we will have to give him more money than what he would have gotten if Everybody would have stayed with BAP. But the trade for the picks was a Great one. The need for the player is all over last years game tapes. Kiper may have just been talking about the money part. Anyway, thats my |

| Ever since Mayock entered the picture, Kiper has become completely irrelevant. And he knows it.

| Stigma (4/27/2008) This is the same guy that had the Jags picking Jason Jones with Pick 26. That in itself speaks volumes of his incompetence!excellent point Stigma. The final nail in the coffin for me was when he said that he would rather have the 34 year old jason taylor than the 21 year old derrick harvey. Mel kiper is a talent evaluator but he is a terrible GM. he can only think in terms of this second right now. the projection thing he is lacking. I think that harvey offers so much versatility that he deserves to be a top ten pick. he is an ery down DE and he also has the strength (31 reps) to play strongside end (played there a lot in the SEC) and still bring a double digit sack presence. when you can put a guy like that on the left side and he can still hold up against the run and occupy a double team that means that in your base package you can put a more undersized guy on the field on the weakside, like a quentin groves at the same time as harvey on the strong side and still be able to play the run effectively with a will linebacker as good as either daryl smith or justin durant playing behind him. that allows you to have elite quickness on the field at all times in your base package down the road. if groves can become a freeney and harvey can become a strahan they will be talking about this as one of the best moves in team history. remember. with the giants, michael strahan was another guy who played on the strongside, but he is a top end pass rusher. not saying that harvey will play at THAT level but the reason the giants got after the QB so well is because they have strahan on one side, which allowed the ultra-athletic umenyora to also be on the weak side and then another strong side end with versatility on the inside in justin tuck. with us you could see in passing situations harvey spicer and groves with derek landri all on the field at the same time in long distance situations and a jam at the line of scrimage. we got some VERSATILE personell that is going to greatly effect the way that we can pressure the qB moving guys around and confusing blocking schemes. This team saw some guys they wanted and they had the amo to go get them. they also wen out at spent 26 million dollars in free agency and brouhgt in a number 7 overall pick in troy williamson via trade who runs in the mid 4.3's and can come in just to stretch the field. we had to get more vertical in the passing game and better at rushing the passer in the offseason and we did that. the o line is still perfectly in place, the interior defensive line can have depth added in the fifth, and who knows with the way the draft is going there could be a really good value at the safety position in the 5th when we pick even though i am EXCITED about a healthy gerald sensabaugh. i am a little concerned about corner but right now we have 3 guys that can start in a man system and that is about 2 more than most teams. as long as you have the lockdown guy in mathis everything is fine underneath and you have the soon to be all pro over the top who had five picks ina zone system. let's see the highlight reel when they cut reggie nelson loose to follow that brown thing.
