I don't really like the pick of Antoine Cason and think they could go with Felix Jones.  However, I can see Brian Williams being nudged out of town after this year unless he plays lights out.  Just a hunch.  I would like the Felix Jones pick better, but I think the Jags would go with Cason first for some reason.  I wonder if they would take SS Tyrell Johnson in the first in this scenario?  Probably not, but he is moving up the board pretty fast.

1.  Mia- OT Jake Long
2.  Stl- DE Chris Long
3.  Atl- DT Glenn Dorsey
4.  Oak- DE V. Gholston
5.  K.C- QB Matt Ryan
6.  NYJ- RB Darren McFadden
7.  N.E- LB Keith Rivers
8.  Bal- OT Ryan Clady
9.  Cin- DT Sedrick Ellis
10. N.O- RB Jonathan Stewart
11. Buf- CB D. R-Cromartie
12. Den- RB Rashard Mendenhall
13. Car- DE Derrick Harvey
14. Chi- OG Branden Albert
15. Det- OT Jeff Otah
16. Ari- CB Leodis McKelvin
17. K.C- OT Chris Williams
18. Hou- S  Kenny Phillips
19. Phi- WR Devin Thomas
20. Tam- CB Mike Jenkins
21. Was- DE Phillip Merling
22. Dal- WR Limas Sweed
23. Pit- OT Gosder Cherilus
24. Ten- DE Calais Campbell
25. Sea- WR Desean Jackson
26. Jac- CB Antoine Cason
27. Bal- QB Brian Brohm ***from San Diego
28. Dal- RB Felix Jones
29. S.F- DT Kentwan Balmer
30. G.B- CB Aqib Talib
31. NYG- LB Jerod Mayo

Jags picks would be:

1. (26) CB Antoine Cason
2. (58) DE Jason Jones
3. (71) RB Jamal Charles
3. (89) S  Thomas Decoud

I think we don't draft DT and OL early this year.

I think Felix Jones goes ahead of us. Either Dallas at 22, Tennessee at 24, or Seattle at 25.

I wouldn't be against drafting him, though.

Yeah, you may be right.  I can see Dallas grabbing him first since they worked out the Pacman deal now.

28. Dal- RB Felix Jones Jerod Mayo
29. S.F- DT Kentwan Balmer  Antoine Cason
30. G.B- CB Aqib Talib
31. NYG- LB Jerod Mayo Tyrell Johnson

Based purely on ranking I think the Jags would take Felix Jones over Antoine Cason, which is why the Cowboys will pick him at 22 instead of potentially losing him prior to Pick 28.

Rd 1 (26): Calais Campbell - DE - Miami

Rd 2 (58): Anthony Collins - OLT - Kansas

Rd 3 (71): DaJuan Morgan - SS - N.C. State

Rd 3 (89): Phillip Wheeler - LB - Ga. Tech

Rd 4 (125): Brian Johnston - DE - Gardner Webb

Rd 5 (143): Jack Ikegwuonu - CB - Wisconsin

Rd 5 (158): Dennis Dixon - QB - Oregon

Rd 5 (159): Gary Barnidge - TE - Louisville

I doubt Dallas would take Jerod Mayo when they just signed Thomas from Miami and they are already stacked at LB.   As far as the Jags go, we might go with Cherilus over Campbell in that scenario.  Why would we take Phillip Wheeler in the 3rd round when we could take Jerod Mayo in the first?   Regardless, I don't think we draft a LB in the first 4 rounds with Mike Peterson staying this year, but you never know.  I think you know Johnston probably won't be left at pick #125 at this point....wishful thinking.  Ikegwuonu and Dixon??   Two more guys with knee injuries....no thanks.

DaJuan Morgan is a player I really like. But I think he is a prototypical FS and we don't have any need there except maybe to add some depth.

So my question is: Stigma, do you think there is any chance he could make a switch to SS and be effective there?

So my question is: Stigma, do you think there is any chance he could make a switch to SS and be effective there?

Regarding Phillip Wheeler check out his sack totals:

2005 - 4 sacks; 2006 - 9 sacks; 2007 - 6 sacks

These totals are as good as any of the DEs in this draft.

He is 6'2" 250 Lbs which makes him a DPR that just happens to be able to play all three LB spots. Since the Jags are going to stress blitzing the QB from the LB spot, why not take the best Blitz LB in this draft?

Regarding DaJuan Morgan check out his tackles:

2006 - 82 TT / 53 Solo Tackles - 2 Int

2007 - 97 TT / 73 Solo Tackles - 3 Int

These days SS must be able to defend the pass and still come up and make tackles. In a Cover - 2 Defense the Jags split the field in half, so the SS better be part FS just to survive. At 6'1" 205 Lbs, he is not a small DB.  The days of the Donovan Darius SS type are gone from the Jags roster.

As far as taking two players that the Jags can put on the shelf for the 2008 season, it makes sense when you look at how deep this roster truly is. Jack Ikegwuonu is a Rd 1 talent that is the type of CB that JDR likes. He is good in pass defense and he is not afraid to come up and defend the run.

Regarding Dennis Dixon, this guy if he was not injured might have been a Rd 2 pick in this draft and would most likely be the 5th QB in this draft.

Regarding Jerod Mayo, he is the classic inside LB for a 3-4 defense, who runs a 4.54/40 and can drop back in coverage. Akin Ayodele is on his way out of Dallas and Thomas is in the last hurrah of his career. Mayo might even beat out Thomas and certainly would start in 2009 over Thomas. Thomas is OLD and SLOW and soon will be let go.

Scouts inc. says...

Weaknesses: Is thickly built but doesn't play as strong as his measurables indicate. Can be overaggressive and overruns holes. Does not like to take on blocks and will get out of position at times running around them...

He's gonna have to be more aggressive to play DE.

Who are you talking about?

If you are talking about Phillip Wheeler, then you must know that he must be protected by a Big Dline to be an effective Blitz LB. Funny thing is that the Jags could have a pretty big DLine and behind such a line, Wheeler could thrive.

It's about Wheeler. I thought you were talking about him being at DE, not blitzing. He's an amazing blitzer.
