This move should also allow a better DE fall to us in the first round.
It just means the Chiefs will use the Vikings pick to draft a DE to fill the open slot I see the kid from Florida going there.

I think this trade will go down as one of the worst trades in history like the Herschal Walker deal with the Vikings and the Cowboys and the Saints when they gave up their draft for Ricky Williams. He is going to get paid, then drunk and then suspended.

Here's the thing...I just don't see this really putting the Vikes in any better position. I mean, they already had a stout defense...just didn't have the O to back it up. Peterson was a breath of fresh air for them last year, but they don't really have the overall depth to be a serious contender in my opinion. And now they've mortgaged their future on a guy who's one too many drinks away from being a serious liability to his team.

Honestly, they are building a team very similar to the way the Jags did and are about where we were two or so years ago. They are building to be a team that plays you very physical.

I think they paid a lot (maybe too much) for allen, but this was a big need for them. They have probably the best def. tackle combo in the league, but could not get any pressure from their ends this year. They were already going to address need at DE and then Udeze gets Leukemia so then they were really hurting at the position. Their linebackers are young and good (two are anyway) and their secondary is decent, but has some age.

But on the offensive side, they are not as bad as people think, but they do have a QB problem. I doubt they were going to fix that given where they were picking. Otherwise, their line is pretty strong, their backfield has two nice backs. They probably feel they are addressing WR by drafting Sidney Rice and Aundrae Allision last year (both started to look good late last year and Rice I think may be a real star soon) and they got Berrian in the off-season. I think they need a better receiving tight end, though they just got Shiancoe last year.

Overall, they may think it is a weak draft class to address depth in.

and now every player on that defensive line is going to feel underpaid. It's going to cause a ripple effect. I find it strange after the "love boat" they would spend that type of money on a guy who is a discipline problem. Didn't they learn from that experience?.. I guess not they didn't learn from the Hershal Walker trade. I'm real happy the Jags take character into consideration. It also might shorten the stay of Brian Williams and Kalif Barnes.  Durant and Collier better keep their nose clean also.

Taylor for a third or no thanks.

We're in complete control of our situation.  There's no need to reach.

We could move up a little if we have a target about to leave the board, trade down, or simply go BAP.

No need to reach just to get a DE, or be desperate enough to overpay for one in free agency.

I can't wait until the endless pre-draft debate ends so we can concentrate on ripping the FO for who we actually picked.

Hayward was a third, Taylor a third, Allen a fourth, and Spicer undrafted.  Not picking a DE with the first pick or not landing a free agent vet DE won't spell the end of the franchise.

The Vikings have what it takes to win the NFC North.

I think they definitely have what it takes to beat both the Jaguars and Colts.  I will be very happy with a week 2 win.

I dont think the Vikings are that bad of a team...but with their quarterback problems they have a long way to go to become a league power.

They have wide receiver problems, too.  That can be addressed in the draft.

They have a middle of the pack pick.

Their running game and offensive line is enough to cure their quarterback ills.

Did you watch the Vikings last year?  Even that amazing running game didnt do much to help their passing game.  If they had a half way decent quarterback they would have had at least 11 wins.

Yeah, but they don't.

And in regards to your sig: Me, too.

Too bad we're more likely to see Jake Long fall to the Jags...

I posted this before I saw the details of the deal. I guess it shouldn't help our luck with a DE.

If we are as close as everyone thinks we are, I don't mind trading for Taylor.

If our FO genuinely wants him, pull the trigger. Don't let Tuna spitefully send him to a sinking ship and away from us.

Sweet GI Joe. I used to play with those things like it was my job.

And, yeah, I'm all about getting Jason Taylor (I think I might be flip-flopping, good thing I'm not running for election).

The guy is a solution to a problem with Hayward's situation still up in the air and if he can be had for a 3rd, then yeah, pull the trigger.
