Scott Wright has just posted his first three Round Mock on his website.

The Jacksonville picks are as follows:

1. Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina

2. Cliff Avril, DE-OLB, Purdue

3a. Chilo Rachal, OG, USC

3b. Tom Zbikowski, SS, Notre Dame

And like all draftniks I just can't let this go by without some comment/dissent on my part so here are my picks based on who is still available according to the mock.

1. TRADE DOWN for Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame

2. Darell Robertson, DE, Georgia Tech

3a. I like Chilo here.

3b. Roy Sheuning, OG, Oregon State

Wait a minute, you want to take two OG's and no Safety in the first 3 rounds??

I don't think there is any way we would pass on Kenny Phillips and take a DT in the first round.

My picks out of that mock would be:

1. S KENNY PHILLIPS--possibly start at SS and back up both safety positions

2. RB CHRIS JOHNSON--return kicks instead of MJD, and be an extra receiving threat on 3rd downs

3. DE JEREMY THOMPSON--add the pass rush we are needing (I'd take an additional DE in 4 or 5)

3. OT CARL NICKS--groom for the starting LT position

Who do you pick?

Brian Johnston versus Jeremy Thompson?

Thompson is a complete DE, but he may not be the pass rusher that Johnston may ultimately become.

I am leaning towards Johnston at Pick 71 perhaps over Jeremy Thompson.

Mine would  be:

1. WR DeSean Jackson ...with the top DEs gone, take an explosive playmaker on offense and special teams.  Reality is he will not slip to #26.

2. RB Chris Johnson ...4.24 40 with RB skills.  Immediate plug into the RB3 role, with grooming for FT future replacement.

3a. DT Pat Sims ...he is too big of a talent not to take with the 71st pick if available.

3b. SS Tom Zbikowski ... I was tempted to take OT Carl Nicks, who is a mammoth guy that will be a starter with a year of development.  However, the need for a SS is pressing and Zbikowski is a terrific tough-guy athlete (and also is in 8th place all time for tackles at Notre Dame...no small stat).

In this Scott's mock, I was not happy with the best all-around DEs being off the board before our first selection.  I just don't think we need another DPR (like Avril) when we have Hawkins and Smith on the roster.  In this mock, I would be looking at a development all around DE with upside (like Brian Johnston) in the 4th or 5th.

My picks there would be:

1) Quentin Groves.  I'm not a huge fan, but speed is speed.  He's 260 with good upper body strength.  He'll have to improve his technique to make up for marginal size, but we have the staff for that.  Bigger, faster, stronger version of the DPR's JDR has tried over the past few seasons will work his way into heavy playing time..especially against some of the more wide-open offenses we'll face.  Our opponent will have to account for him on every play with the kind of speed he has.

2) Tracy Porter.  Near first round talent in the bottom of the 2nd round.  He'd be the highest rated player on my board here and has the size and speed to be a productive 4th / 5th CB now and much more later.

3a) Shawn Crable.  Good athlete with great size for the position.  Outstanding blitzer that can play standing up or with his hand on the ground.  Crazy TFL's.  Provides good depth at SLB and gives Williams another blitzer to play with.

3b) Tom Zbikowski.  Holy crap, they got one right. Other safeties are climbing up the boards, which will work out in our favor.  We get an experienced SS with special teams ability both in coverage and returns.  He'll be a contributor immediately...maybe a starter down the road.

My best guess as to what the Jaguars would go with:

1. Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
2. Tavares Gooden, LB, Miami (FL)
3a. Shawn Crable, LB/DE, Michigan
3b. Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska

My personal picks:

1. Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
2. Reggie Smith, S/CB, Oklahoma
3a. Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska
3b. Darrell Robertson, DE, Georgia Tech
