CHIEFS ADDRESS ALLEN REPORTS
Posted by Mike Florio on April 17, 2008, 3:04 p.m.

The Kansas City Chiefs have issued a statement regarding media reports of a potential trade of defensive end Jared Allen to either the Minnesota Vikings or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“We will confirm that we have been in conversation with a few teams regarding the possibility of acquiring Jared Allen’s contractual rights,” team president and G.M. Carl Peterson said. “Any potential agreement would be contingent on the Chiefs receiving appropriate compensation and Jared’s representative reaching a contract agreement.

“Jared is not an exclusive franchise player. Therefore, based on the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, he has the right to visit and negotiate with other teams. However, for any trade to be completed, the Chiefs would need to reach an agreement on compensation. At this point, all of these discussions are preliminary.”

Whether the discussion move beyond “preliminary” is something that needs to happen pretty **** soon. We’re assuming that the Chiefs would like to convert Allen’s right into one or more draft picks that can be used nine days from now.

I read the Falcons and Vikings are two of the teams he spoke with. Why aren't the Jaguars on that short list? Does he want too much money? Are our picks not enticing enough? With so much uncertainty at Defensive end after Dorsey in this draft, would it be safe to say the Jaguars are at least inquiring about a trade with the Chiefs?

We most certainly are inquiring.

The only reason he wouldn't be able to land him, would be because our picks are not as valuable as the Vikings, or many other teams. We would have to give a lot more to make up the difference, and may not be willing to. That, and we're an AFC team.

Don't worry, before long we will have a certain poster 'acknowledging' they were right again. Whatever that means.

NFL Total Access said tonight that the Jags were a third team in negotiations with the Chiefs however the talks had ceased.  They said the Jags have pulled out of the running.  IMO I wouldn't rule out the Jags getting back into the talks as the draft gets closer.  It's known that the Chiefs want a first and a second for Allen.  I hope we do it.

Vikings | Team increases offer for J. Allen
Tue, 22 Apr 2008 08:18:45 -0700

Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports the Minnesota Vikings have increased their offer for Kansas City Chiefs DL Jared Allen, according to Scout.com. The Vikings would be willing to give the Chiefs their first-round pick in this year's NFL Draft, along with its 2009 second-round pick and 2008 third-round picks.
