jagabc6893 (4/17/2008) One more thing I just thought of about the Jared Allen situation. If Minnesota gets him and we don't, that may help our chances of having Phillip Merling fall to us at #26. I had the Vikings taking Merling at #17. But if the Chiefs get #17 from the Vikings, I guess they might take Merling to help replace Allen. Dang. Oh well, who knows what will happen....I think that that is the main piece that KC is pushing to get the trade done. Essentially they are saying that they are putting a top notch guy on the trading block and as soon as he is gone, they are going to take his replacement in the draft. So if you want yourself a world-class DE, you better get him before anybody else. Pretty shrewd bit of gamesman-ship there. Could be pretty smart. Allen will break the bank next year if he has anything close to the same production this year.

| | I see while I am taking a nap, Jay Glazer has to come behind me and break the story nationally. Well it figures this board would be the No. 1 stop on the web from rumors. Anyways, Glazer's articles says this about Jacksonville... The Jacksonville Jaguars had previously inquired with Allen's camp as well. Now I am not sure how to take this but it might suggest to me that the Jags tried to meet Jared Allen's asking price before they tried to work out a trade. Clearly, Allen has been on the market for a while. I am now thinking that the pricetag to sign Jared Allen is a bit too steep and the Jags have decided to pass just as they did with DeAngelo Hall of the Falcons, when he was on the market prior to the beginning of Free Agency. I have to concur that perhaps the best turn of events that can come out of this is that the Vkings sign Jared Allen and the Jags have another DE fall into their laps. |

You don't think this will just make KC draft one, thus leaving the same amount of DEs when the Jags pick?

| How does the "Tampering Rule" work? How can all these teams be "talking" to Allen? I guess the K.C. game him permission to seek a trade......?

| | The DE that most likely is within KC's gunsights is Vernon Gholston and he was going to be gone by the Jets pick anyway. The issue is whether the Viking will REACH for Phillip Merling or allow him to fall where he should be taken in this draft which as I see it is around Pick 26. In fact I have to say that Pick 26 would be just about perfect for Phillip Merling and the team that would draft him. |

Either Chris Long or Gholston, depending on what happens ahead of them. Then they would pick an OT (Chris Williams or Jeff Otah) with the #17 overall from Minnesota. That would possibly leave Merling for us at #26.

There's a good chance that Chris Williams nor Jeff Otah will be there at 17. The Chiefs at #17 could end up taking Derrick Harvey, as he could slip down the board as well.
