| HURRICANE!!! (4/14/2008)
maize n blue (4/14/2008) You put that guy in a DLine with guys like Henderson, Meier and Spicer and motivation will not be an issue. Can you please explain Bobby McCray? Playing next to Henderson, Meier, Spicer AND BEING ON A CONTRACT YEAR !!!! My opinion is that McCray was forced last season to be an all-around DE, which he wasn't capable of being. In prior seasons and the end of last season, McCray took a Simeon Rice-like wide split. This allowed him to use his speed to beat the OT. This split was a liability against the run. Last season was more of an issue of "if you wanna get paid like a 3 down DE, you better ptove you can be one". When they brought his splits in to a more reasonable area, McCray lacked the base strength to bull rush and the technique to routinely get it done. When he was negated as a pass rusher, other players became more viable options. Of course, that's simply an educated opinion. I think that's part of the reason the Saints were willing to pay him what they did. They look at him almost as a DPR. They need to create some kinda pressure with the horrible CB's they've got.

I think that is a reasonable explaination for McCray's 2007 season. Better than anything I've got to explain it. I hypothesized that he might have been playing through some sort of injury that was kept low key, but since we never heard any whispers of that even after the season, I dismissed the chances of that being the reason.
Congratulations to the 2008 WORLD Champions, your Philadelphia Phillies!

| HURRICANE!!! (4/14/2008) Perhaps he was 20 pounds overweight because he lacks discipline. Also, how can a team that has 2 defensive stars slated to go in round 1 (or early round 2) lose to Virginia 41-0 in the final game at the Orange Bowl?
I believe Campbell is going to be a bust once he gets millions of dollars hitting his bank account. In predicting the future of the 2 UM stars, I like the future of Kenny Phillips a lot better than Campbell.
..... but then again, I liked OL Kenyatta Walker (instead of DL Marcus Stroud) so what do I know
20-25 pounds came from him traveling out to LA to a strength trainer because the NFL's recommendation was "to get stronger"...so, he attempted, and the guy who he went to, obviously failed him.
The speed was never an issue for the NFL at his playing weight.
Technique and strength were.
He will get better, he has the drive to do so. His football IQ is very high and is very self aware. |

| I was watching NFL Network yesterday and they had a show on about real big guys and real small guys who have played well in the NFL over the years. They had a segment about Too Tall Jones, who they said was 6'9". When I saw some of his old clips, I was thinking about Calais Campbell, who is close to that tall. I am hoping Campbell can be as disruptive as Too Tall if we end up with him. Too Tall was a beast.

| | http://nflmockdraftaces.com has him going at #26 to the Jags. I don't necessarily love the pick, but it was down to: 1.) LB - Jerod Mayo (who will most likely be gone though) 2.) DE - Calais Campbell 3.) OT - Gosder Cherilus 4.) CB - Antoine Cason 5.) DE - Quentin Groves 6.) S - Kenny Phillips 7.) OT - Duane Brown 8.) DE - Lawrence Jackson 9.) OT - Sam Baker 10.) DT Trevor Laws and I thought he not only fills a need, but has some upside.

| | The thing that's so scary about Campbell is that he obviously hasn't filled out his 6-8 frame, and he's not a polished product by any means. He could be a complete beast in 2 years at DE. That will certainly haunt the Jags if and when they pass on him. I'm not really worried about the combine as much as the poor junior season he had. It's been mentioned on this board that the reason Campbell's play suffered was due to him mailing it in on Randy Shannon and UM's 7-6 season last year. That's a maturity issue that needs to be addressed. I certainly wouldn't be displeased if the Jags passed on him, but then I wouldn't be displeased if they picked him either.

Some scouts are actually predicting that he may be able to play both DE and DT(Like Adam Carriker, Rob Meier, and Justin Tuck to nake a few) That's why I wouldn't close the door on Campbell because Jack loves the versatile linemen.

| No way.
Campbell isn't even close to strong enough to be a DT.
A center or guard would DESTROY Campbell with little to no effort. He would only see the sky at that position. And no.. he can't add sufficient bulk to be a DT. He's no John Henderson.
