For those of you who know the draft better than I do (that's not saying much...most of you have me beat ), how far do you think each of these guys will drop?

Would they be good in a Colts uniform?

Tashard Choice would be a solid fit in the Colts offense. Great vision, hits the hole hard. Solid blocker. Good hands. A very physical runner.

Forte may be even better. He's more talented overall, is an outstanding blocker, and could be a good short-yardage guy.

Rice, however, isn't a great fit. He's an outstanding natural runner who I think will start for a long time for some team. But he isn't as versatile as the Colts would prefer for a guy in their system.

I'd agree with this.

Based on what I've read about Rice, he looks a lot like MJD.

Vic says he is a pounder.

We need a short-yardage runner, someone who can pound it into the inzone.  I threw in Forte because that's what he appears to be.  I threw in Choice because he appears to get a lot of high marks in the character department.

Polian says that he would have drafted MJD had the Jaguars not taken him.  That makes me think that Rice is a possibility.

Rice is a borderline first round talent, but he's also a light RB. I'm not so sure he'd be the best choice to pound it up the middle, and I doubt he'd make it all the way to the Colts late second round pick anyways. Matt Forte is a big, bruising RB who will take care of business on short-yardage downs. He's probably your best bet. Another option would be to wait until your third round pick to select Kevin Smith.

The problem with Rice (and the reason I think he'll be a late 2nd round guy at the earliest) is the number of carries he's already had.  He's already had 910 carries in at Rutgers, plus 334 catches (1244 touches in 3 years!).

In comparison, Choice has had 697 carries 288 catches at Ga. Tech (985 touches in 4 years).  Forte had 808 carries and 100 catches at Tulane (908 touches in 4 years).

Another guy Indy may wanna look at is Cory Boyd out of South Carolina.

Ray Rice reminds me a bit of Curtis Martin. He's got the juice to log 20+ carries a game and play for a long time. But he's not a very polished third-down type player.
